Oracle last week quietely announced the addition of new extended capabilities in MySQL Enterprise Edition, confirming the adoption of the open core licensing strategy, as we reported last November.

The MySQL Developer Tools team is proud to announce the next release of it’s flagship product, MySQL Workbench, version 5.2.35. This is the next maintenance release containing 29 bug fixes as well as new feature additions. We also updated the supported platforms to include most recent editions of Fedora and Ubuntu Linux.

MySQL Workbench 5.2.35 now supports the Native Windows Authentication Method – available in the commercial MySQL server product – and the creation of user accounts utilizing this new authentication method.

For the PHP developers out there, Workbench now also comes with a new set of plugins to turn SQL Queries into PHP code to be put right into your scripts.

Last week we concluded our first Oracle Technology Network Sys Admin Day in Sacramento (CA). Well, it was actually the second Sys Admin Day, but the first one that had two parallel tracks of sessions about both Oracle Linux and Oracle Solaris.

I helped preparing for the event by creating the Linux lab handbook as well as the VirtualBox appliance of Oracle Linux 6.1 that was used for the exercises. Unfortunately I could not be there in person, but it would have been pointless for me to go on an intercontinental flight just for one day.

From the feedback we've received so far, the attendees really enjoyed the event and were positively surprised about the depth and quality of the practical hands-on lab sessions.
