New “Meet The MySQL Experts” Podcast Series

During the past year, we’ve put a lot of emphasis at Oracle on sharing information with the MySQL Community. Actions included PR and communications not only about GA products but also about development milestone releases and features available in labs.mysql.com, as well as more technical articles, more blogs, participation to conferences…etc. We very much value the feedback and discussions such communications generate.

We therefore plan to keep communicating this way, and do even more. This is why we’re now very pleased to announce a new Oracle podcast series entitled “Meet the MySQL Experts”! We plan to, once a month, interview an Oracle MySQL Engineer who will share information about his/her domain expertise, and what he/she is currently working on.

For the first edition, it was my …

OurSQL: The MySQL Database Community Podcast

For those of you not aware of it, Sheeri K. Cabral and Sarah Novotny are doing a great job running the "OurSQL" Podcast. A great and convenient way to learn more about various MySQL topics.

Episode 33 is about "Looking through the Lenz"...that is, Lenz Grimmer, MySQL Community Manager at Oracle and long time MySQLer.

Lenz talks about snapshot backups in general, MySQL backups with snapshots, and mylvmbackup, a script he wrote and maintains to easily take consistent MySQL snapshot backups. Check it out!

Keep up the good work, Sheeri and Sarah!

Jono Bacon speaks to Oracle on the MySQL Community

Jono Bacon recently spoke with Luke Kowalski, Oracle VP in the Corporate Architecture Group, about community in the context of MySQL. I’ve known Jono for sometime now, and I first met Luke at the MySQL Conference & Expo 2010 – I found out that we have a common shared interest: Formula One racing! Jono is somewhat of an expert in online, opensource communities – he after all did write the definitive book that O’Reilly published titled The Art of Community.

The video has made its way online, and Jono wrote a brief (and you can watch the video within his post) about what was discussed. You can also get …
