A couple of months ago (December 1st for those playing along at home) it marked five years to the day that I started at MySQL AB (now Sun, now Oracle). A good part of me is really surprised it was for that long and other parts surprised it wasn’t longer. Through MySQL and Sun, I met some pretty amazing people, worked with some really smart ones and formed really solid and awesome friendships. Of course, not everything was perfect (sometimes not even close), but we did have some fun.

Up until November 2008 (that’s 3 years and 11 months for those playing at home) I worked on MySQL Cluster. Still love the product and love how much better we’re making Drizzle so it’ll be the best SQL interface to NDB :)

I am currently working as a Database Administrator with Linux Systems Administrative components for REA-Group. The company specialises in online advertising in the property space - with websites like realestate.com.au and casa.it and my role is the optimistion, up-time and performance of the underlining database infrastructure. Prior to REA, I was working as a Database Administrator for Rackspace Hosting in their managed hosting team, one of the biggest hosting companies in the world.

I specialise in MySQL Server performance as well as in performance of the LAMP stack. realestate.com.au is a 600 webpage hit-per-second website and challenges around performance, redundancy and optimisation is what I love the most.

This is really cool. Rackspace is hiring people to work on Drizzle full-time for their cloud product, Mosso. Adrian Otto writes the Drizzle mailing list:

Marco Tabini has a great post discussing the cost of the cloud, and the current state of affairs. He calls for a simpler cloud platform, not just in terms of cost, but ease of use and products and services that adapt to changes in the market. Though the $100/month Mosso offering is mentioned (this site is hosted on Mosso), I would like to point out the recent acquisitions by Rackspace/Mosso that make their cloud offerings even more compelling than AWS for me.
