Mydbops database meetup was held on 26-01-2019 and 48 members from open source database community has attended this event. We had talks on MySQL and MongoDB databases.

Open source database enthusiastic from companies like OLA Cabs, Searce Inc, PayTm, Quikr, Zensar, Grab, SAP labs, Travel Yarri, Meddiff and a few has travelled from other cities of India like Hyderabad and Chennai.

The Welcome talk was given my Selva venkatesh of Mydbops. He spoke about the open source database community and welcomed all the participants and speakers.

Mydbops team has presented at 15th edition Open source India Conference happened at Bangalore on 12-10-2018. Manosh malai ( Senior Devops/ DB Consultant ) and Kabilesh P R ( Co-Founder Mydbops ) has made presentation on “Evolution of DBA in the Cloud Era“. They have shared the value addition that DBA’s can bring into any organisation who have adopted to cloud ( DBaaS ). They have shared a case study of their consulting experience too.

MySQL replication has evolved a lot in 5.6 ,5.7 and 8.0. This presentation focus on the changes made in parallel replication. It covers MySQL 8.0. It was presented at Mydbops database meetup on 04-08-2016 in Bangalore.

MySQL load balancers becomes a trend setters in Market for High availability and Scalability. They offer variety of solutions for database. What can be the best load balancer ? It varies from case to case. This presentation was made at Mydbops meetup on 04-08-2018 covers the basics of load balancers with their advantages/ disadvantages and use cases.

As Mydbops we have consulted  many large scale MySQL deployments. This presentation is about one of our customer who is one of the largest retailer in North America. This is about their data migration to InnoDB Cluster ( MySQL ) from an enterprise database.

The schema changes in production can cause lock at time and makes the slave to lag. It is more tedious and troublesome with PXC ( Galera ) cluster which can be made smoother with Percona online schema change.

This presentation was made at LSPE event in Bangalore (India) held at Walmart labs on 10-03-2018. This presentation focuses how we have harnessed the power of Ansible at Mydbops.

In May, I presented two talks – one called “Are you getting the best out of your indexes?” and “Optimizing Queries Using EXPLAIN”. I now have slides and video for both of them.

The first talk about indexing should probably be titled “Why is MySQL doing this?!!?!!?” It gives insight into why the MySQL optimizer chooses indexes that you do not expect; especially when it does not use an index you expect it to.

The talk has something for everyone – for beginners it explains B-trees and how they work, and for the more seasoned DBA it explains concepts like average value group size, and how the optimizer uses those concepts applied to metadata to make decisions.
