Alpha Build of Percona Server 8.0 released

An alpha version of Percona Server 8.0 is now available in the Percona experimental software repositories. This is a 64-bit release only. 

You may experiment with this alpha release by running it in a Docker container:

$ docker run -d -e MYSQL_ROOT_PASSWORD=password -p 3306:3306 perconalab/percona-server:8.0.12.alpha

When the container starts, connect to it as follows:

$ docker exec -ti $(docker ps | grep -F percona-server:8.0.12.alpha | awk '{print $1}') mysql -uroot -ppassword

Note that this release is not ready for use in any production environment.

The goal of this tutorial is to show you how to use multi-master to aggregate databases with the same name, but different data from different masters, on the same slave.

Example :

• master1 => a French subsidiary
• master2 => a British subsidiary

Both have the same database PRODUCTION but the data are totally different.

This screenshot is made from my own monitoring tool: PmaControl. You have to read 10.10.16.232 on master2 and not 10.10.16.235.

There are many organizations where front/web-facing applications use MySQL and back end processing uses PostgreSQL®. Any system integration between these applications generally involves the replication—or duplication—of data from system to system. We recently blogged about pg_chameleon which can be used replicate data from MySQL® to PostgreSQL. mysql_fdw can play a key role in eliminating the problem of replicating/duplicating data. In order to eliminate maintaining the same data physically in both postgres and MySQL, we can use mysql_fdw. Recently, we initiated a new project, the Open Source Database Community Blog. One way to think of this is as an online, year round version of the Percona Live conferences. If you have a story to tell, an experience to share, or a lesson to be learned send it along. As long as it’s related to open source database software, their management and application. That’s right. Not just Percona software. Any open source database software of all formats.

Unlike Percona Live, though, we are not limited by time or space. All submissions are welcome as long as they follow some simple guidelines.

The main focus of a previous blog post was the performance of MyRocks when using fast SSD devices. However, I figured that MyRocks would be beneficial for use in cloud workloads, where storage is either slow or expensive.

In that earlier post, we demonstrated the benefits of MyRocks, especially for heavy IO workloads. Meanwhile, Mark wrote in his blog that the CPU overhead in MyRocks might be significant for CPU-bound workloads, but this should not be the issue for IO-bound workloads.
