As you may know, sometimes MySQL can be memory-hungry. Of course having data in memory is always better than disk… RAM is still much faster than any SSD disk.

This is the reason why we recommended to have the working set as much as possible in memory (I assume you are using InnoDB of course).

Also this why you don’t want to use Swap for MySQL, but don’t forget that a slow MySQL is always better than no MySQL at all, so don’t forget to setup a Swap partition but try to avoid using it. In fact, I saw many people just removing the Swap partition… and then OOM Killer did its job… and mysqld is often its first victim.

Recently our team was tasked to implement MySQL 8.0 in production for a client. While MySQL 8.0 is looking very promising and has a lot of cool new features and revamped old features, it’s still pretty young. The MySQL development team is working very hard on stabilizing the product but, reading the latest release notes for version 8.0.12, it is still very much a bugfix release and not something you will want to put in production immediately. Also, given the fact that a lot of tools such as Percona Xtrabackup do not support MySQL 8.0 yet, we were a bit reluctant to proceed with this idea. But … the client had a strong use case to make use of roles and resource groups and we like challenges so we decided to give it a go.

This is a tutorial to go through setting Up MySQL 8.0 Document Store, Importing World_x Sample database and building GENERATED COLUMN with Index and lastly to show the QUERY PLAN using collection.find() that uses the INDEX built.

INSTALLATION Pre-requisite

The goal of this tutorial is to show you how to use multi-master to aggregate databases with the same name, but different data from different masters, on the same slave.

Example :

• master1 => a French subsidiary
• master2 => a British subsidiary

Both have the same database PRODUCTION but the data are totally different.

One of the nice features of the MySQL Document Store is the X DevAPI that allows you to query the data from a multitude of programming languages using the same API (but while retaining the conventions of the language).
