MySQL Shell 8.0.15 for MySQL Server 8.0 and 5.7 has been released

Dear MySQL users,

MySQL Shell 8.0.15 is a maintenance release of MySQL Shell 8.0 Series
(a component of the MySQL Server). The MySQL Shell is provided under
Oracle’s dual-license.

MySQL Shell 8.0 is highly recommended for use with MySQL Server 8.0
and 5.7. Please upgrade to MySQL Shell 8.0.15.

MySQL Shell is an interactive JavaScript, Python and SQL console
interface, supporting development and administration for the MySQL
Server. It provides APIs implemented in JavaScript and Python that
enable you to work with MySQL InnoDB cluster and use MySQL as a
document store.

The AdminAPI enables you to work with MySQL InnoDB cluster, providing
an integrated solution for high availability and scalability using
InnoDB based MySQL databases, without requiring advanced MySQL
expertise. For more information about how to configure and work with …

How to Switch Replica Master of a non-GTID Slave in Percona Cluster ?

Introduction –

Recently i worked on a production issue for one of our client under support .They have a architecture of a three node Galera cluster with one asynchronous slave .

  • Node1 – 172.10.2.11
  • Node2 – 172.10.2.12
  • Node3 – 172.10.2.13
  • Replica – 172.10.2.14

Architecture –

The slave(replica) was configured with node3 as replica master. Unfortunately the node 3 was crashed with an OOM killer ,also server has a low gcache size, so when i am trying to start the node 3 , it went to SST . Here the data size was around 2.6 TB , in general for completion of whole SST and joining the node back to cluster will take around  approximately 12 hours.

As i told earlier, the replication slave was under …

Support for LATERAL derived tables added to MySQL 8.0.14

Hello all. Last months have been busy for me with various tasks, and one of them is finally done and released in MySQL 8.0.14 : LATERAL derived tables. All details are in my post on mysqlserverteam. I think it is a useful addition to our SQL capabilities. Enjoy!

A New Dashboard to Monitor Memory Usage in the PMM plugin!

While the PMM team works hard on our PMM 2.0 release, we have been working on a few things in the background which we’d like to show off !  In particular we have developed a new dashboard that displays metrics related to memory usage on Linux systems. The dashboard leverages information collected by node_exporter. The graphs take advantage of  /proc filesystem files, specifically:

  • meminfo: Provides information about distribution and utilization of memory. This varies by architecture and compile options.
  • vmstat: Provides information about block IO and CPU activity in addition to memory.

Support for LATERAL derived tables added to MySQL 8.0.14

In the just-released MySQL 8.0.14 I added a feature called LATERAL derived tables.

The manual describes the syntax and has examples of how the feature can be used to find greatest values in tables. In the present post I’m going to consider a different problem solved by LATERAL: let’s say that we have a bunch of nodes, and want to make a “random graph”, by connecting every node to other nodes.…

How Roles Have Changed in MySQL 8.0 and How to Use Them

Database Security is important to any MySQL setup. Users are the foundation of any system. In terms of database systems, I generally think of them in two distinct groups:

  1. Application, service, or program users - basically customers or clients using a service.
  2. Database developers, administrators, analyst, etc… - Those maintaining, working with or monitoring the database infrastructure.

While each user does need to access the database at some level, those permissions are not all created equal.

More Statistics for Slow Queries: log_slow_extra

The slow query log is the trusted old method of recording slow query, so the database administrator can determine which queries are in the most need for optimization. Since MySQL 5.6, it has to some extend been overshadowed by the Performance Schema which has lower overhead and thus allows collecting statistics about all queries. The slow query log has one major advantage though: the data is persisted. In MySQL 8.0.14 which was recently released, there is an improvement for the slow query log: additional statistics about the recorded queries.

The slow query log with log_slow_extra enabled.
