Causes and Workarounds for Slave Performance Too Slow with Row-Based Events

Recently I worked on one customer issue that I would describe as “slave performance too slow”. During a quick analysis, I’ve found that the replication slave SQL thread cannot keep up while processing row-based events from the master’s binary log.

For example:

Authenticating Vault Against LDAP for Accessing MySQL Through ProxySQL

Earlier this year, I was presented with the challenge of streamlining user access to MySQL, allowing users self-serve access using their LDAP credentials, while logging all access. Of course, various MySQL forks allow for user auditing, but the solution is also needed to eventually support other data storage systems without native user auditing. This gave me the opportunity to do a trial integration of MySQL, Vault, ProxySQL, and LDAP; Vault would be used to dynamically create user accounts, and ProxySQL would be used to limit access and log activity. To evaluate the functionality and configuration of the integration, I used Docker to set up a test environment.

Interestingly enough, even though it is totally different from OLTP engines, ClickHouse uses a MergeTree engine. A Look at MyRocks Performance

In this blog post, I’ll look at MyRocks performance through some benchmark testing.

As the MyRocks storage engine (based on the RocksDB key-value store http://rocksdb.org ) is now available as part of Percona Server for MySQL 5.7, I wanted to take a look at how it performs on a relatively high-end server and SSD storage. I wanted to check how it performs for different amounts of available memory for the given database size. This blog post describes how to keep sensitive data secure on slave servers in a MySQL async replication setup.
