I’ll be speaking on April 11th at 4:30 pm in Room 4 in at the Percona Conference and Expo Talk. The topic will be “Creating a Benchmark Infrastructure That Just Works.”

Throughout my career I’ve been involved with maintaining the performance of database applications and therefore created many benchmark frameworks. At Tokutek, an important part of my role is measuring the performance of our storage engine over time and versus competing solutions. There is nothing proprietary about what I’ve created, it can be used anywhere.

Last week was a bumper week in London for MySQL users, DBAs & developers. We had the Oracle MySQL Developer Day and Percona Live London 2011. Both events were sold out, bringing in a good 300+ people to each event. From what I could tell the crowds were quite unique, so thats a good 600+ people interested in MySQL in London. The death and unpopularity of MySQL is greatly exaggerated.

At Oracle’s event, we naturally only had Oracle presenters. There was Simon Deighton (Sales Manager), Tony Holmes (Sales Consultant), …

I was at Percona Live London 2011 these past two days. Very interesting conference. Good work Peter & team — you’ve managed to gather a good 300+ people at one venue in London. So full was the venue, that during today morning’s keynote I had to sit in the spillover room and miss out on Peter calling out my name :-) (no, Stewart and I were not drinking at 9am!)

Gave my session titled Why MariaDB? (slides). Pleasantly realized that there were many new faces. Better still, everyone has heard of MariaDB in the room. More interestingly is that a bunch of people are now also using MariaDB in production!

A big week for conferences in Europe this week. We’re starting it off at Percona Live London 2011 (see previous post), with both Sergei Golubchik and Colin Charles presenting talks on Tuesday 25 October 2011.

Right after, we’re headed to LinuxCon Europe, where Colin Charles will discuss The MySQL Diaspora and how there exists much choice for people today (it is not just stock MySQL one can use nowadays).

Monty Program is sponsoring both Percona Live London as well as LinuxCon Europe. We’ll be having a booth at LinuxCon Europe, probably right next to our friends SkySQL, as we did at LinuxCon North America (Vancouver).

Its good to announce that Monty Program will have a presence at Percona Live London (October 24 & 25 2011), and we’re very excited about it. There will be two talks (no tutorials this time around):

1. Sergei Golubchik will present on Pluggable Authentication in MySQL and MariaDB. I’ve seen Serg give tutorials to this effect, so expect a lot within half an hour!
2. Colin Charles will present on Why MariaDB? which focuses on what new features are available today in MariaDB and how they benefit users.
