If you are a maintainer of an Open Source project, you currently have plenty of choice when it comes to getting your project hosted for free. One criterion could be your software configuration management system (SCM) of choice.

The Netways Nagios Conference 2008 in Nürnberg (DE)
was opened today by Ethan Galstad, creator of Nagios. He gave an
overview of how Nagios evolved and the steady growth of the
monthly downloads, now reaching 16k!
The Nagios 3.0 overview was quite nice. Apparently lots of effort
was put in optimizing it for bigger setups, like doing host
checks in parallel and changing internal structures not using
linked lists.Great was also to hear that the web interface is
being revamped, as well as the Embedded Perl becoming some kind
of plugin, called Event Broker Modules. This is however for the
next experimental versions (v3.).NRPE/NSCA are probably doomed to
go into maintenance. Ethan said they would likely be replaced by
more standard protocols and web services.

Sun is a huge company. So it comes as no surprise that I’m finding out about Project Kenai via Tim Bray, instead of some internal mailing list (believe me, there must be thousands).
Tim’s got a Q&A with Nick Sieger, who’s one of the chieftains behind Kenai. I find it amusing that the comparison is made against Google Code and GitHub - has SourceForge hit irrelevancy? I’m surprised Launchpad isn’t mentioned.

MySQL University started as an internal training program for MySQL engineers, to share and spread knowledge about their areas of expertise and has been available to the public for quite some time now. Mark Schoonover has asked me to take over the LinkedIn Group for
MySQL Certified Professionals. We are still working out the
details but I would like to ask the almost 200 members of that
group and any potentially interested others what they would like
to see this professional community become.
Personally, I am going to need a platoon of MySQL Exam beta test
guinea pigs and this group looks like a great source for talent
people.
But what do the members want?
Cisco gives accounts with CCIEs on staff a percentage discount on
support contracts? They also get an escallated queue for any
support calls. The logic behind that is that a CCIE would not
call on something trival and would have triaged the problem. Is
this something for this group?
Or do we need t-shirts? Mugs? A special room (rubber padded,
drool absorbant carpet) reserved for us at the 2009 Users
Conference?
