The MySQL Server High Availability landscape provides with a slew
of tools to help you ensure that your databases keep humming.
Such tools are Galera Cluster, however, it is worth looking at
semi-synchronous replication with failover tools, and also the
usual leader-follower asynchronous replication. Today more
workloads are moving to the cloud, and what failover options do
you get with Amazon RDS for MySQL or even Aurora? What about the
newfangled group replication and InnoDB Cluster? And let us not
forget that Galera Cluster has spawned branches too!
Join Codership, the developers and experts of Galera
Cluster, as we discuss where Galera Cluster fits in and how
to get best out of it.

Do you want to run Galera Cluster in the cloud? Why not learn to setup a 3-node Galera Cluster using Amazon Web Services (AWS) Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), and run it yourself (3-node because this is the minimum preferred size; you can have a 5, 7, or 9 node cluster too — not in the demo though!). In this webinar, we will cover the steps to do this, with a demonstration of how easy it is for you to do. We will also cover how you may want to load balance traffic to your Galera Cluster using a proxy like ProxySQL.
In addition, we will cover why you may want to run a 3-node (or more) Galera Cluster (multi-master synchronous clusters) instead of (or in addition to) using Amazon Relational Database Service (RDS) MySQL, which has the ability to have asynchronous replication (Read Replicas), and High Availability provided by DRBD (Multi-AZ). We will also cover where Galera Cluster differs from Amazon Aurora RDS for MySQL.

[Read more]Are you looking to get started with the world’s most popular open-source database, and wondering how you should setup your MySQL hosting? So many default to Amazon RDS, when MySQL performs exceptionally well on Azure Cloud. While Microsoft Azure does offer a managed solution, Azure Database, the solution has some major limitations you should know about before migrating your MySQL deployments. In this post, we outline the best way to host MySQL on Azure, including managed solutions, instance types, high availability replication, backup, and disk types to use to optimize your cloud database performance.
MySQL DBaaS vs. Self-Managed MySQL
The first thing to consider when weighing between self-management and a MySQL Database-as-a-Service …

It is July now, and summer is upon us. The team at Codership are
busy making Galera Cluster 4 for MySQL, and we are just hot of
the heels of celebrating the launch of Galera Cluster 4 with MariaDB Server
10.4.
At the end of May, Galera Cluster had a booth and several talks at Percona Live Austin. This was the first time the event happened there, and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The key takeaway from that event would be Seppo Jaakola’s talk titled: Galera Cluster New Features. It covered the then upcoming MariaDB Server 10.4 release with Galera Cluster 4, went in-depth into how streaming replication works …
[Read more]Congratulations to Team MariaDB at MariaDB Corporation and MariaDB Foundation for releasing MariaDB 10.4.6 as Generally Available (GA) last week on 18 June 2019. This release is very exciting for Galera Cluster users as it comes with Galera 4 (it is now the first server to come with it!), with Galera wsrep library version 26.4.2.
What can Galera Cluster users expect from MariaDB 10.4? Some high level features include:
- Streaming replication — a huge boost to large transaction support, since the node breaks transactions into fragments, replicates and certifies it across all secondary nodes while the transaction is still in progress. Read more about it in our dedicated documentation on streaming replication as well …
Codership, the makers of Galera Cluster are proud to be sponsors
at the second annual DataOps.Barcelona happening June 20-21
2019 at the World Trade Centre in Barcelona,
Spain.
For an opening keynote, in the Auditorium from 9.30-10.30am see
Colin Charles speak about What’s New in Galera Cluster
4. There are plenty of new features and it debuts in
MariaDB Server 10.4, so expect to hear a lot about what is
available. On day two, Colin will also speak about
Running MySQL and MariaDB Server securely in
2019.
Our booth will have Vlad Alexandru manning it all the time, and we would love to talk to you about Galera Cluster, roadmaps, plans, as well as our support, training and consulting for Galera Cluster for MySQL as well as Percona XtraDB Cluster (PXC).
Galera Cluster will also be running a raffle, so drop …

After a short hiatus, we hope to meet and see you at Percona Live
Austin 2019 (28-30 May 2019), as we have
sponsored the event and have a booth in the expo hall, in
addition to conducting some talks.
Our CEO and Co-Founder, Seppo Jaakola will make a presentation
entitled, Galera Cluster New Features, in the Texas 5
room, on Wednesday from 11.55 a.m. to 12.45 p.m. It will be a
very interesting talk as Galera Cluster 4 features have made
there way into MariaDB Server 10.4. You will also hear a little
about when Codership, the engineers and makers of Galera Cluster,
will provide a MySQL version.
If you happen to sign up for tutorials, don’t miss …
[Read more]Codership is pleased to announce a new Generally Available (GA) release of Galera Cluster for MySQL 5.6 and 5.7, consisting of MySQL-wsrep 5.6.43 and MySQL-wsrep 5.7.25 with a new Galera Replication library 3.26 (release notes, download), implementing wsrep API version 25. This release incorporates all changes to MySQL 5.6.43 (release notes, download) and 5.7.25 respectively (release notes, …
[Read more]In this three-part blog series, we introduced a High Availability (HA) Framework for MySQL hosting in Part I, and discussed the details of MySQL semisynchronous replication in Part II. Now in Part III, we review how the framework handles some of the important MySQL failure scenarios and recovers to ensure high availability.

- The Corosync and Pacemaker framework detects that the master MySQL is no longer available. Pacemaker demotes the master resource and tries …
