MySQL Connector/Python v1.0.5 beta is now available for download from the MySQL website. This version is feature complete and we welcome and appreciate feedback and bug reports.

We’re also interested in hearing your feedback for future enhancements. Let us know how you’re using the connector too, especially if you are using it with Django, SQLAlchemy and similar Python technologies.

A few things have changed since the last development releases and we hope the manual shipping with the Connector/Python distribution (and also available online soon) will help you get up to speed.

I’m posting this because of a question raised against this older post on how to configure the %CLASSPATH% to find the ojdbc6.jar file. This is the lab file I use in my Database 1 class to expose students to the moving parts of writing Java programs against the Oracle database. That’s why I choose to use a CLOB data type, which requires Oracle’s DBMS_LOB package and wrapping stored procedures.

MySQL Connector/Net 6.6.0, a new version of the all-managed .NET driver for MySQL has been released.  This is the first of two alpha releases intended to introduce users to the new features in the release.  This release is not feature complete and there are significant limitations but it should be stable enough for users to understand the new features and how we expect them to work.  As is the case with all non-GA releases, it should not be used in any production environment.  It is appropriate for use with MySQL server versions 5.0-5.6

Six years ago, I wrote Oracle Database 10g Express Edition PHP Web Programming for the release of the express edition. It was a lot of fun to write because I enjoy the PHP programming language, but unfortunately sales didn’t measure up too well. That’s probably because the population of PHP developers working with Oracle was small.

Solving the Challenges of Big Databases with MySQL
