MySQL JSON Document Store

MySQL 8.0 provides another way to handle JSON documents, actually in a "Not only SQL" (NoSQL) approach... In other words, if you need/want to manage JSON documents (collections) in a non-relational manner, with CRUD (acronym for Create/Read/Update/Delete) operations then you can use MySQL 8.0! Did you know that?

Miami and Santo Domingo with MySQL Document Store

The next two weeks are a big change for me compared to the last two weeks.  The last two weeks I was in Belgium and now I am in Miami before heading to the Dominican Republic.  The one thing in common is that I am speaking on the MySQL Document Store.

SunshinePHP has become a favorite conference for many PHP developers for many reasons and this morning I will be running a three hour tutorial on using the PECL MySQL X DevAPI and the MySQL Document Store with PHP and then have a one hour talk later in the show. Plus I am joined by the amazing Kathy Forte who will speak on Driving Innovation With MySQL 8.0 and Docker.

Pycaribbean is a new show hoping to foster a growing developer community into the area.  And i will be showing how to use the MySQL Document Store with Python. All opinions …

MySQL Books - 2018 has been a very good year

Someone once told me you can tell how healthy a software project is by the number of new books each year.  For the past few years the MySQL community has been blessed with one or two books each year. Part of that was the major shift with MySQL 8 changes but part of it was that the vast majority of the changes were fairly minor and did not need detailed explanations. But this year we have been blessed with four new books.  Four very good books on new facets of MySQL.

Introducing the MySQL 8 Document Store is the latest book from Dr. Charles Bell on MySQL.  If you have read any other of Dr. Chuck's book you know they are well written with lots of examples.  This is more than a simple introduction with many intermediate and advanced concepts covered in detail.

MySQL at Oracle Open World and Oracle Code One Oct 22-25 2018 !

This year again, the MySQL Team is eager to participate in the Oracle Open World conference. This is a great opportunity for our engineers and the entire MySQL Team to highlight what we’ve done, and also what we are working on. Another reason to be excited this year is our new participation to Code One, the Oracle developer focused conference. Oracle Code One will include a full track dedicated to MySQL.

This is very good news for everybody attending, from DBAs to developers, as we will offer even more great content ! This year, in both events, we will highlight how NoSQL+SQL=MySQL.

Our MySQL Engineers will deliver fantastic sessions about …

Plenty of new MySQL books

In the old days, when we wanted to strengthen our skills the only option was to buy a good book. Nowadays one can find a lot of resources on the Internet, however quality is often poor. Fortunately there are still some great people who are brave enough to write new books that will help a new generation of women and men to build modern applications with MySQL the world's most popular open source database. Let me introduce you 3 MySQL books : Introducing the MySQL 8 Document Store / MySQL and JSON: A Practical Programming Guide / Pro MySQL NDB Cluster

Top 10 reasons for NoSQL with MySQL

As you know, one of the great new feature in MySQL 8.0 is the Document Store. Now with MySQL you can store your JSON documents in collections and manage them using CRUD operations. NoSQL is now part of MySQL ! Instead of a mix of MongoDB and MySQL, now you can eliminate MongoDB and consolidate with MySQL !

This is a historical meeting of NoSQL and SQL in the same database server!

To use MySQL 8.0 as Document Store, you need to have the X plugin installed (by default since 8.0.11). This plugin enables the X DevAPI that offers a modern programming interface. Clients that communicate with a …

This Week in Data with Colin Charles 41: Reflecting on GitHub’s Contribution to Open Source Database

Join Percona Chief Evangelist Colin Charles as he covers happenings, gives pointers and provides musings on the open source database community.

Some big news out from Microsoft about their acquisition of GitHub for $7.5 billion. GitHub hosts many projects, including from the MySQL ecosystem, but maybe more interesting is that their DBA team is awesome, give great talks, and are generally prolific writers. Some of the cool tools the MySQL world has gotten thanks to the excellent team include (but are not limited to): ccql, gh-ost for triggerless online schema migrations, and Orchestrator which is a GUI-based High Availability and …
