The headline above could fit in a tweet, but Drizzle making its first release almost 3 years after the project started deserves a blog post.
Brian Aker has a long blog post looking back at these 3 years (and even longer into MySQL history). Stewart Smith has an entertaining personal perspective. .frm files, I will not miss you (if I were to start using Drizzle, that is). Planet Drizzle has an avalanche of posts from most Drizzle devs celebrating this event.
Last week I managed to attend virtual openSUSE 11.4 Release party in Second Life. I got registered there especially to able to attend this event so it took me some time to figure out how it all works. Although I’m still learning how Second Life works, I’m now able to perform basic tasks and move around freely. Big thanks to Morgane Marquis for helping me. I’m still learning new stuff and it’s fun.
Now back to the release party. We meet at Geekos Place in Second Life. It is awesome place to visit and you still can. Lot of geekos everywhere. We talked, had a few beers and danced. When I announced the MySQL Council, I said that among its roles
there is that of being a bridge between the MySQL community and
Oracle.
It has come the time where we put this role to good use.
Recently, there have been some concerns about the MySQL bugs
database, which could be summarized in Mark Callaghan's post

The gist of the concerns is that there has been a change in the
bugs handling, although we don't know what was changed and how.
In short, there has been a total lack of communication. The MySQL
Council has addressed the concerns about the public bug database

Almost a year ago we launched the AskMonty Knowledgebase, a home for information on MariaDB and MySQL. When we launched, only employees had access to write articles, though anyone could ask a question. This was done for technical reasons. The good news is that that has changed, with the latest version we just pushed live, anyone with an account (or an open ID) can create and edit articles.
There is only so much content we can write so we want your contributions, from completely new articles to editing and improving what we already have. What is Elgg and why should you care?
Elgg is a soacial networking platform. It is written in PHP and
it has quite general design. It supports plugins that can change
nearly anything. It also has quite vivid community around.
Community that among other things provides lots of plugins. And
it is of course open source. All these features were reasons why
we chose Elgg as a platform for openSUSE

You must already heard about this from everybody. Google Summer of Code 2011 is nearby and openSUSE wants to participate. Currently we are collecting ideas and mentors and we are going to apply. I also came up with few projects and volunteered to mentor them. I saw Thomas Thym introducing his GSoC ideas and I think it’s great to write a blog posts that introduce projects. So I’ll join and here comes the first project that many of you were waiting for – SaX 3.
