MySQL for Visual Studio 1.1.4 was released including a new feature: MySQL Toolbar inside the Visual Studio environment. This post will cover the details on this new feature.
MySQL for Visual Studio is a product including all of the Visual Studio integration previously available as part of Connector/Net. Today we're releasing the 1.1.4 Maintenance Release of this product. It is a version suitable for production environments, compatible with Connector/Net 6.8.3 or further versions and supports MySQL server versions 5.0 to 5.6.

There may be times when you need to create a new table in MySQL and feed it with data from another database, the Internet or from combined data sources. MS Excel is commonly used as the bridge between those data sources and a target MySQL database because of the simplicity it offers to organize the information to then just dump it into a new MySQL table. Although the last bit sounds trivial, it may actually be a cumbersome step, creating ODBC connections within Excel through Microsoft Query may not help since these are normally created to extract data from MySQL into Excel, not the opposite. What if you could do this in a few clicks from within Excel after making your data ready for export to a MySQL database?

MySQL Fabric is an integrated framework for managing farms of MySQL servers with support for both high-availability and sharding. Its development has been spearheaded by Mats Kindahl, senior principal software developer in MySQL at Oracle.
Mats is leading the MySQL Scaling and High-Availability effort covering the newly released MySQL Fabric and the MySQL Applier for Hadoop. He is also the architect and implementer of several features (mostly replication features), including the row-based replication available in 5.1 and the binary log group commit available in MySQL 5.6. Before starting MySQL he earned a doctoral degree in the area of automated verification of distributed systems and worked with implementation of C and C++ compilers.
