Percona is hiring performance experts

Percona is hiring. We've added several experts recently and we're growing at a fast but sustainable pace. The demand for our services is strong, and we have openings for more experts in the next couple of months.

Let me explain a little about what we're looking for at the moment. While we do have a career path for less experienced people, right now we are looking for people who are top-level, senior experts in LAMP/Open-Source performance and scalability. Most of our work involves MySQL (at least peripherally, usually centrally) but not all of it; and we are looking for a PostgreSQL expert as well as systems administration and operations skills. If you're also an expert in a related technology (e.g. Hadoop, popular cloud platforms, or some other component that you might expect to see at the Percona Performance Conference) we'd like to …

Video interview with Jack Adams at #fosdem

This was an interview Jack Adams did with me at the MySQL/OpenSolaris booth at FOSDEM last weekend. Jack adams is an OpenSolaris mascotte, look around on YouTube for more funny interviews with him.

Monitoring MySQL

The slides for my Monitoring MySQL talk , which I gave earlier today in an overcrowded MySQl Developersroom at Fosdem are now online, both at my site and at Slideshare

As of now I actually expect people to use those slides for schoolwork or next year in a main Fosdem track :)
As afterall that is the goal of Open Source and spreading the word ..

Live from FOSDEM 2009

I am now at FOSDEM, volunteering at the MySQL project stand and attending sessions in between. Today is the most important day for MySQL. At 13:15 CET there will be a talk by Kaj Arno covering recent events at Sun/MySQL. I am here with Santo Leto from HoneySoftware at the moment and he is going to attempt [...]

Leaving to Brussels for FOSDEM 09

I will be at FOSDEM - Free and Open Source Software Developers’ European Meeting - in Brussels, tomorrow Saturday 02/07 and the day after.

This year MySQL™ has a Project Stand and a Developer Room, with many interesting talks scheduled.

For me, that’s a nice occasion to meet the European part of the MySQL™ Community Team as well as other SUN™ employees and developers.

Here’s a Google map of my way to Brussels:

I’m a MySQL Conference and Expo advocate again

So far this year I’ve been totally silent about the MySQL Conference and Expo 2009. In the past I’ve been a vocal advocate of going to the conference and sending your employees to the conference. So my silence was conspicuous to me, if not to you. I’ve always considered myself a strong [...]

Towards more diversity of speakers at MySQL Conference and Expo

We (Percona) just announced our Percona Performance Conference, and I wanted to tell you a little more about what we hope to accomplish with this conference. Let me show you some simple math that anyone can do.

There’s a handy iCal download of the conference schedule on the conference website. iCal is a plain [...]

Announcing Percona Performance Conference 2009 on April 22 & 23

All of us here at Percona warmly invite you to Percona Performance Conference 2009 on April 22 and 23, 2009 in the Hyatt Regency in Santa Clara, California. The theme for the conference is Performance Is Everything. This conference is about application performance overall, not just databases. Attendance is free of charge for everyone. Experts in many types of technologies -- databases, search, cloud computing, massively parallel computing, client-side optimization -- will present their real-life experience.

In order to forestall speculations and prevent people from jumping to unwarranted negative conclusions, I'd like to take a moment and explain the story behind this event. Some of you have noticed that there were no sessions from Percona this year on the schedule for the …

Speaking at MySQL Conference & Expo 2009

I realize I’m running a bit late with my MySQL Conference speaking announcement this year, nonetheless yes I will be in Santa Clara again just as in 2007 and 2008. This time I won’t be doing a talk by myself or with Phil as in the last two years, but rather with Joachim Worringen from our technology partner Dolphin.

Our talk, titled Database High Availability with a Punch: MySQL with DRBD for Dolphin Express, is currently scheduled for Thursday, April 23.

Registration …

MySQL Conference & Expo Coming Up

MySQL Conference and Expo is coming up to Santa Clara this April.

The program schedule is really easy to navigate and tells you about everything there's to partake of.

A quick review will show you that the  quality of the no-nonsense presentations will be amazing, and it will be a true privilege to attend the conference. (We should thank the MySQL community team for helping ensure this high level of technical quality and relevance.)
