AWS has announced that Amazon RDS Custom for Oracle will reach end of support on March 31, 2027. Customers can continue using the service as-is until then; after that date, RDS Custom for Oracle database instances, snapshots, and custom engine versions will no longer be accessible.

Yesterday I participated to the Oracle Technology Roundtable for Digital Natives in Zurich.
It was a good opportunity to learn more about AI, Cloud and HeatWave with the focus on very trendy features of this product: generative AI, machine learning, vector processing, analytics and transaction processing across data in Data Lake and MySQL databases.
It was also great to share moments with the Oracle and MySQL teams and meet customers which gave feedback and tips about their solutions already in place in this area.
I’ll try to summarize below some key take-away of each session.

There was an idea. An idea to make Vitess self-reliant. An idea to get rid of the friction between Vitess and external fault-detection-and-repair tools. An idea that gave birth to VTOrc… Both VTOrc and Orchestrator are tools for managing MySQL instances. If I were to describe these tools using a metaphor, I would say that they are kinda like the monitor of a class of students. They are responsible for keeping the MySQL instances in check and fixing them up in case they misbehave, just like how a monitor ensures that no mischief happens in the classroom.
