SQLyog MySQL GUI 12.3.3 Released

This is a bug-fix release.  Please refer details below.

Changes as compared to SQLyog MySQL GUI 12.3.2 include:

Bug Fixes:

* Fixed an issue where Import External Data -jobs failed to authenticate SMTP.
* The sja.log would record syntax errors on recent servers if  Scheduled Backup was running with ‘Flush Master’ option. The generated backup file was OK. ‘Flush Master’ was deprecated in MySQL 5.6 and replaced with ‘Reset Master’. We now use ‘Reset Master’ with such servers.
* In email settings of Import External Data wizard it was possible to leave the subject empty.
* When re-ordering columns, an ON UPDATE -clause could be lost in specific cases.
* Fixed cases where index-level comments were not saved and …

How to migrate from Galera Cluster to MySQL Group Replication

In this article, I will show you how it’s possible to perform an online migration from a 3 members Galera cluster setup (in this case I’m using PXC 5.7.14) to a 3 members MySQL Group Replication cluster setup (MySQL Community 5.7.17).

Don’t forget that before adopting Group Replication as database backend, you should validate that your application do match GR requirements and limitations. When this is validated, you can start !

So first, let’s have a look at the current situation:

We have an application (sysbench 0.5), reading and writing to a Galera Cluster ( …

Row Store and Column Store Databases

In this blog post, we’ll discuss the differences between row store and column store databases.

Clients often ask us if they should or could be using columnar databases. For some applications, a columnar database is a great choice; for others, you should stick with the tried and true row-based option.

At a basic level, row stores are great for transaction processing. Column stores are great for highly analytical query models. Row stores have the ability to write data very quickly, whereas a column store is awesome at aggregating large volumes of data for a subset of columns.

One of the benefits of a columnar database is its crazy fast query speeds. In some cases, queries that took minutes or hours are completed in seconds. This makes columnar databases a good choice in a query-heavy …

A Simple Node.JS Example Program for the MySQL Document Store

I have chatting with others who want to use the new X Devapi Document Store features but have not been able to find simple example programs. Finding the bridge between 'Hello World' and something useful can often be discouraging.

Example Code Here is a very short Node.JS Docstore example program that accesses the 'countryinfo' collection. More on why Node.JS and what software you need below. But for now regard this code to get one specific record from the database.

var mysqlx = require('@mysql/xdevapi');

mysqlx.getSession({ //Auth to server
host: 'localhost',
port: '33060',
dbUser: 'root',
dbPassword: 'password'
}).then(function (session) { // use world_x.country.info
var schema = session.getSchema('world_x');
var collection = schema.getCollection('countryinfo');

collection // Get row for 'CAN'

Group Replication is GA with MySQL 5.7.17 – comparison with Galera

It’s a wonderful news, we have released MySQL 5.7.17 with Group Replication Plugin (GA quality).

From the definition, Group Replication is a multi-master update everywhere replication plugin for MySQL with built-in conflict detection and resolution, automatic distributed recovery, and group membership.

So we can indeed compare this solution with Galera from Codership which is a Replication Plugin implementing the WSREP API. WSREP, Write Set Replication,  extends the replication API to provide all the information and hooks required for true multi-master, “virtually synchronous” replication.

With Group Replication, MySQL implemented all this information …

MySQL Group Replication : It’s in 5.7.17 GA!

Extremely exciting news! A big day today. In case you have missed it, MySQL Group Replication has made it into the MySQL 5.7.17 release. Thus, it is now GA.

The MySQL Group Replication feature is a multi-master update anywhere replication plugin  for MySQL with built-in conflict detection and resolution, automatic distributed recovery, and group membership.…

MySQL on Docker: Deploy a Homogeneous Galera Cluster with etcd

In the previous blog post, we have looked into the multi-host networking capabilities with Docker with native network and Calico. In this blog post, our journey to make Galera Cluster run smoothly on Docker containers continues. Deploying Galera Cluster on Docker is tricky when using orchestration tools. Due to the nature of the scheduler in container orchestration tools and the assumption of homogenous images, the scheduler will just fire the respective containers according to the run command and leave the bootstrapping process to the container’s entrypoint logic when starting up. And you do not want to do that for Galera - starting all nodes at once means each node will form a “1-node cluster” and you’ll end up with a disjointed system.

Testing (again) LOAD DATA on MySQL 5.6, 5.7, 8.0 (non-GA) and MariaDB 10.0, 10.1 and 10.2 (non-GA)

I’ve been lately compiling and generating .deb packages for several MySQL and MariaDB recent versions, and I wanted to try them more in depth -specially MySQL 8.0 and MariaDB 10.2, both of which are still in development.

Several people have already given their first impressions (or will do soon), and testing early is the best way to catch bugs and regressions, and get them fixed before the official release. In fact, as I will comment later, I ran into breaking bugs on both MySQL 8.0 and MariaDB 10.2, which I …
