The MySQL Developer Tools team at Oracle is looking for good C++ and/or Python developers to help with the MySQL Workbench project.

In the Workbench team, you’ll be responsible for developing features, maintaining the existing codebase and interact with the community to improve the project.

We’re looking for candidates to work from office at Guadalajara, Mexico or from home in Romania, Ukraine, Portugal, Poland or Czech Republic, with availability to start in the team in late May.

We had a great kickoff to the Bangalore MySQL User camp on 22 March 2013 at the Oracle Kalyani Magnum Office.

There were 17 attendees from the MySQL community besides more than 15 MySQL engineers who attended the meet. Of these 3 community members were from groups inside Oracle. There was a mix of new and veteran MySQL users. The MySQL India teams gave a brief introduction about themselves, followed by a quick overdrew of MySQL and how it is different from other databases. The presentation about 5.6 features was presented last and the one that was most liked. There was a great networking over juice and Donuts after the meeting. There were lots of questions by the community on technical details of 5.6 features. Everyone interacted and there was help offered for ensuring that the next meeting on 19th June 2013 is an even greater success.

MariaDB has had pluggable authentication since MariaDB 5.2. Our most popular authentication plugin that we ship in MariaDB is the PAM authentication plugin. Naturally one is curious to see if users would like to see more authentication plugins being made available, so we’ve posted a poll on Facebook. Please feel free to add your vote to the poll so we have a better idea of where to focus our future pluggable authentication development.

As alway with new technology there is always different approaches regarding the adoption. You can try to use the bleeding edge features or start with a very standard configuration. My personal advise to new users is to start with the most basic configuration.

• Slackware Linux is dropping MySQL for MariaDB as a default
• Arch Linux replaces MySQL in repositories with MariaDB
