Hi,

MySQL Connector/Net 1.0.8 RC has been released.  MySQL Connector/Net is an all-managed ADO.Net provider for MySQL.  While this release is suitable for any version of MySQL, it is strongly encouraged that this release not be used on any production data. 

IMPORTANT
We are making this release available as an RC because there were significant changes made to the provider beyond just simple bug fixes.  Due to this, we felt it prudent to ask for feedback from the community before declaring the provider safe for production use.  We plan to release the next version (1.0.9) as GA within the next 2-3 weeks incorporating any feedback we get from the community.

Just booked my flight to MySQL Camp in Mountain View 10-12 Nov 2006. That is the un-conference where we look forward to hanging out with some core MySQL community members. Quite a few proposed session topics, on anything from advice on getting VC funding, to high performance database schemas for folksonomy applications. I might consider presenting the one on how to run a global distributed organisation if the topic gets enough votes.

Right now, I counted 29 attendees in the participant list. Hope to meet with many more MySQL community members there!

The MySQL 5.0.26 released 3 Oct 2006 contains an embarrassing ABI breakage. We’re fixing this bug right now, and making a new build including the first binaries which will carry the name “MySQL Community Server” and “MySQL Enterprise Server” (which obviously did not exist on 3 Oct 2006). We’ll notify both our community and our customers of the new builds when they’re available.

Sorry about the trouble. We’re also improving our internal QA and build processes, in order to avoid future, similar problems.

Yesterday, we finished this year’s Kundenkonferenz in Munich. With over 100 customers, prospects and some community members, it was a successful event.

I was especially happy to listen to Kristian Köhntopp’s Performance Tuning workshop. I had never seen MySQL Performance Tuning been presented with such a combination of profound knowledge and excellent sense of humour, before attending Kris’s presentation!

this is exactly what redhat did a couple of years ago with it’s creation of ‘fedora’.

don’t get me wrong.. I’m not complaining .. MySQL has provided a excellent data source for many a year for next to nothing for most people, and I am grateful.

Well, it appears I'm in Canberra for a few days next week, teaching an in-house training course. Cool customer (might tell more later) and also cool because I haven't been to Canberra yet. It's not free, but its certainly one of the coolest open source based technologies I've read about.  MooBella, of Taunton Massachusetts, has an ice cream making vending machine built on the open source LAMP stack.  In about 45 seconds, the MooBella machine, about the size of an overweight soda machine, churns through the ingredients and delivers a cup of fresh ice cream and a range of flavors and mix-ins.  The MooBella machine features a simple graphical display, self-tuning diagnostics, wireless support, turbulent dynamic mixing and your choice of chocolate chips, walnuts, peanut butter cups or cookies & cream. 

Who says open source doesn't innovate?  It makes me proud to be a MySQLer!
