The EMEA webinar on Performance and Tuning last week (22 Apr
2008) was a great success! Great attendance, lots of questions
and an amazing job from Henrik Ingo and Erik
Granstrom!
I have posted the recording of the webinar here and the slides here - unfortunately we could not post the
material on our MySQL website, since it's pretty crowded now with
P&T docs.
Here is the Q&A session:
Q from Ketil: I have a DB that is "read many, write few", and
will remain relatively small (less than RAM). How do I tune a
InnoDB MySQL-database for optimal query performance? There are 8
hasAndBelongsToMany relations to categories and a few 100 000 …
Some time ago a few people lamented the demise of The Swag Report, a
cool idea by Mike Hillyer... people would take photos of the swag
they collect at conferences and other events, and post it to the
site with some comment/rating.
At the 2008 MySQL conference we caught up, and I mentioned that
I'd be happy to help revive it. It's not the world's next big
business venture ;-) but really just a bit of fun and sometimes
informative. It just seemed like a pity that it
disappeared.
So now, it's baaack. Very simple setup right now, you just upload
your photos to Flickr, add the comment with rating you want, and
click on the "add to group" button for the swagreport group. You'll need to join the group
first, which is of course free.
The site …
I just made my reservations to attend
Velocity Conference in Burlingame, CA.
Velocity is a new two day conference being organized by O'Reilly.
I was happy to learn at Lunch today that one of my good friends
from CafeMom will also be attending. Over at Facebook I see Don
McAskill has RSVP'd for the event as well.
Jesse Robbins, chair for Velocity conference graciously provided
a 20% discount coupon as a comment on my blog
post.
The early registration is about to end, but I find it really
interesting that many slots still mention TBC (to be confirmed).
I would have expected the schedule to …
If you've missed our presentations on MySQL Users Conference you can catch up now by taking a look at the slides, which are now published in presentations section of our company web site. You can also find a lot of old presentations in the same location.
Enjoy !

Today the integration with Sun made two steps forward for me.
I finally got the access to Sun internal network, and as a
consequence, I was able to create a new
blog. My first post is just an introduction to the larger Sun community. From my next post, I will start aggregating that blog as well in Planet MySQL. |
Hello, Sun!
|
I am one of the 400 employees who, on January 16, 2008, awoke at the thundering words of Marten Mickos and Jonathan Schwartz, announcing that MySQL had been acquired by Sun for $1b. Theoretically, or arithmetically, I should be worth $2.5m, and so handle with care. :) Who am I? I am a database enthusiast, with a reputation in several open source places. I am known in the Perl and MySQL communities, and you may have seen me around during some conferences, talking about unusual hacks or making jokes in heavily accented English. |
I have another, historical blog, actually, with the same name, The Data Charmer, which has become my middle name.
My current job is MySQL …
