Thanks to Andrei (before he moved on to bigger and better
things), we now have this in the nightly builds.
Take a look - yes, you're getting column names in the completion
list when working with a string literal in PHP. And notice how it
works with aliases...
It's a prototype, but it's a good start, and we expect to have
something like this working for you in NetBeans.next
Great news! NetBeans PHP team just added SFTP support. Note this is in the development build, which you can get here
Andrei Badea, one of our team members, does an excellent screencast showing off some of the new database features in NetBeans 6.5 (due to release next week). Things like code completion, editable results, multiple result tabs, SQL history and easy creation of the Sakila sample database.
Justin Bolter has a nice screencast on using the NetBeans PHP support to build a Flickr slideshow application. A nice way to get a sense of the PHP features in NetBeans.
You may have seen this already, but this nifty little graph shows
what databases our users are using. The biggest one by far is
MySQL, followed by JavaDB/Derby and Oracle.
We get this data through collecting "gestures" - where we track
the clicks and actions performed by users who "opt in." In this
case we detect what database vendors our users connect to through
NetBeans.

I took a 1-hour long session (was supposed to be 2 hours, but my
planned agenda was exhausted) for students of engineering
colleges across Karnataka studying in colleges under
VTU. The
session was delivered via EDUSAT under the Sun
Microsystems- VTU EDUSAT e-learning programme.
It was fun. However, the fact that there was no interaction with
the students felt a little dumb. (I was speaking on the camera
which was beamed live)
These are my slides:
I also put together a short Quiz for them:

Update: Sun has expanded its Cloud Computing portfolio with the recent acquisition of Qlayer, a cloud computing company that automates the deployment and management of both public and private clouds. The Q-layer organization, based in Belgium, is now part of Sun's Cloud Computing business unit which develops and integrates cloud computing technologies, architectures and services.
Cloud computing is about managing petascale data. Sun's server and storage systems can radically improve the data-intensive computing emerging in the cloud. Some clouds are closed platforms that lock you in. Sun's open source philosophy and Java principles form the core of a strategy that provides interoperability for large-scale computing resources. Sun's virtualization solutions for advanced …
[Read more]Last week I attended the International PHP Conference 2008 in Mainz in Germany. The conference was well prepared and I would like to say thanks to organizers. There was just one thing, which could be better. It was raining for all my stay, but this nobody can influence:).
As I expected, almost nobody from the attendees knew the PHP support in NetBeans or NetBeans itself. PHP support in NetBeans is still new and the first version of the PHP support will be released with NetBeans 6.5, probably next week. Because our tool is still new for PHP developer, no surprise for me. I met probably less people than I have fingers, who knew NetBeans. Sun was one of the Gold sponsors and during opening ceremony the audience was asked whether there is someone who knows the PHP support in NetBeans. I think that there was 6 people who put up hand.
On Wednesday I had one session, where I did demonstration of features that are available in …
