This walkthrough will show you how to configure your more or less clean install of Windows(you can use XP, Vista or 7) in order to build MySQL Cluster on Windows. The setup also works for the vanilla MySQL Server since the only real difference is the configure switches used to activate build of the NDB storage engine and the NDBCLUSTER handler.

Installing the necessary tools

• Install bison from GnuWin32 - http://gnuwin32.sourceforge.net/packages/bison.htm, this program is used generate the yacc parser in MySQL Server and is invoked automatically by a build rule. To avoid problem's with spaces in the path name, I recommend installing it to non default location c:\GnuWin32(i.e remove the "Program Files (x86)" part) - this is luckily the only tools that seem to have problem with spaces in the path.

The source version for MySQL Cluster 7.0.10 has now been made available at ftp://ftp://ftp.mysql.com/pub/mysql/download/cluster_telco/mysql-5.1.39-ndb-7.0.10//

This replaces MySQL Cluster 7.0.9.

You can either wait for the binaries to be released or if you’re in a rush then you can find instructions on building the binaries for yourself in the earlier article: “MySQL Cluster 7.0.7 source released“.

A description of all of the changes (fixes) that have gone into MySQL Cluster 7.0.10 (compared to 7.0.9) can be found in the MySQL_Cluster_7_0_10_ChangeLog.

ClusterJ Architecture

MySQL have been working on a new way of accessing MySQL Cluster using Java. The aim being to give most of the performance of the C++ NDB API but in a much friendlier form for Java developers. There will in fact be 2 new interfaces – ClusterJ (MySQL’s own API) and a JPA solution (using OpenJPA). OpenSQLCamp was a huge success! Not many folks have blogged about what they learned there….if you missed it, all is not lost. We did take videos of most of the sessions (we only had 3 video cameras, and 4 rooms, and 2 sessions were not recorded).
