It looks like we're going to meet on Monday, 22nd of December.
I'll give a talk on subqueries in 4.1 and 6.0.
I'll post additional information here when I know more :)
Spockproxy is a custom version of the MySQL Proxy that is optimized (dedicated) to range based sharding. This is not done with Lua so it is perhaps less flexible but if you are trying to do sharding it is one of the easiest solutions to set up – and will require minimal, if any, changes to your application code.
Is is available as an open source down load at Sourceforge.
Many have published their Very Important
Opinions on the MySQL 5.1 GA. Now that the issue has been forced,
I must take a stand.
Falcon is strictly a MySQL 6.0 project. I did not participate
directly in the development of MySQL 5.1 and cannot render an
informed technical opinion as to its quality except to say that I
absolutely trust the judgment of MySQL management and the ability
of my fellow engineers, and I fully stand behind their decision
to release MySQL 5.1 GA.
In twenty-two years, I have worked at companies ranging from
mom-and-pop software shops to companies like IBM, CSC, Harris,
Boston Scientific and everything in between. I have developed
operating systems, telecommunication software, database
microkernels, medical device firmware and, most importantly,
applications for the …
Both Giuseppe and Kaj have blogs in languages that I don’t understand. In fact, even Planet MySQL has feeds for German, Spanish and French blogs.
Want to keep up with non-English based blogs? Happen to use Google Reader? Then use their nifty “Translate into my language” feature.
I can now read Giuseppe’s latest …
[Read more]I have just started a blog in Italian. Although Italian is my mother tongue, most of my technical writing is in English. Since my tasks are more widespread than a single country, it was easier and simpler to write in English straight away.
After Sun acquisition, the MySQL presence in Italy is growing, and then it makes sense to employ my birth speaking abilities to spread the word in my country.
Today, thanks to a convoluted introduction, set in motion by Kaj and Google Translate, I started contributing to Giuseppe Guerrasio's blog, pettinix.org, with a post on …

Now being back from last week’s trip to Ukraine and this week’s trip to Russia, it’s time for an overview.
MySQL was prominently present at both Sun events, the one in Kiev on 26.11.2008 and the one in Moscow last Tuesday 2.12.2008. It was good to discuss with local Sun guys, and to meet MySQL community people and colleagues in both places.
The two first pictures in this post are from the community event at a university of economy in Moscow.
Like elsewhere, I started in the local language (which, perhaps surprisingly, frequently seems to be Russian also in Ukraine), followed by a “MySQL in the Web Economy” presentation in English.
Russia and Ukraine are interesting places, so I …
[Read more]We’re happy to announce a new update of our MySQL Workbench 5.0. We’ve fixed a list of bugs (can be seen on our Release-Info-Page) and improved the table figures by adding the option to display column-properties like Not Null, Auto Increment and Unsigned directly on the Table Figure. This new feature is deactivated by default and can be switched on via the Options Dialog (Extras->Options, Diagram-Tab) by checking the Show Column Table Flags Option.

Our work on the Linux version of Workbench 5.1 has made big progress, so we’re planning to publish a new Linux alpha update next week - stay tuned, penguins.
If you've been reading this blog for a while you'll know
that
for the past decade I've had a love-hate relation ship with Sun.
Sun has done a lot of good things in their open source journey such as MySQL, openOffice , Virtualbox and opensourcing Java. But on the other hand they had troubles with creating really organic opensource.
I've always wondered why a company that bought StarDivision because it was cheaper than buying the MS Office license keeps wasting money on building it's own operating systems, albeit in a pretty open model, but with zero to no relevant community.
Yes I've ranted on their marketing boys and girls when they polluted forums I liked. But no I don't want this to happen. (Slicing up Sun)
However I`m in fear it actually might happen, the funny thing is that I already mentioned the same idea in offline conversations …
[Read more]Update for all of those that are following the progress of Monolith. I’ve been busy this week coding the reporting engine - the code that analyses the hundreds of variables that are being collected - and I’m pleased to say that Perl was the correct choice for this application.Installation on the client servers will be a breeze, and relatively few non-standard modules are required for the server application.
I’ve been silently wondering for some time if the reporting engine equations should be part of a pluggable system (stored in the database) or if they should be hard coded. After writing up all of the equations, I’ve come to the conclusion that, for a quicker release, the equations and reporting engine will be hard-coded this time around for the default system alerts. Howeve -> user-defined alerts will be pluggable. Revisions ahead of 2.0 might feature pluggable main equations but I want v2.0 out asap.
Second bit of …
