Introduction

The multi master plugin for MySQL is here. MySQL Group Replication ensures virtually synchronous updates on any node in a group of MySQL servers, with conflict handling and failure detection. Distributed recovery is also in the package to ease the process of adding new nodes.

The first preview  release of MySQL Group Replication, a MySQL plugin that brings multi-master update everywhere to MySQL, is available on labs. This plugin ties together concepts and technologies from distributed systems, such as group communication, with traditional database replication. The ultimate result is a seamlessly distributed and replicated database over a set of MySQL servers cooperating together to keep the replicated state strongly consistent.

There are a lot of nice goodies in MySQL 5.7.5 already, but there are also some additional features that we are working on and would like to share  with you right now as well. For that we have done a couple of labs releases. In this post we will be referring to the labs release that contains enhanced multi-threaded slave applier and a refreshed version of multi-source replication.

We put these previews out there, among other things,  to get early feedback from you. This makes you a very relevant part of MySQL development, since you are in an unique position to influence our work by trying them out and commenting how good or bad was your experience or even just by pointing out things that you would like to improve.

We have a new April labs release that you can download from labs.mysql.com. There are more labs releases. Please try them all, but for now let’s focus on the one called “MySQL GIS, InnoDB R-tree, Parser Refactoring”.

The release contains InnoDB R-trees, the first step of our new GIS implementation, a refactored and faster parser and improved condition filtering cost calculations. You can download and run the binaries just like before, but if you want to build it from source, there are some details you should know. Otherwise you may fail to build MySQL (bug #72172).

This labs release requires Boost to build. Specifically, it requires Boost 1.55. But don’t go running off to boost.org looking for the latest tarball just yet — there’s no need for that. The MySQL build system will do everything …

Last week was a banner week for MySQL at OSCON. We had many MySQL developers meeting with the MySQL community, conducting technical sessions, leading BOF sessions, working the exhibit hall, and confirming Oracle's leadership in the technical evolution of MySQL.  The highlight of the week was the unveiling of even more 5.6 early access InnoDB and Replication features that are now available for early adopters to download, evaluate and shape via labs.mysql.com.  

InnoDB is one of MySQL's "crown jewels" and beginning in 5.5 is now the default storage engine.  The following 5.6 feature improvements are in direct response to community and customer feedback and requests.  The new 5.6 early access features include:

• Full-text search
  
• REDO log files max size extended to 2 TB
• UNDO logs on their own tablespace …

Who remembers snaps? This is the place to go, when you wanted nightly source code snapshots of stuff that comes out of MySQL AbSun Microsystems build systems, that is related to the MySQL product line. There you can get all the snapshots for GA releases, as well as archives; (albeit not very up-to-date).

Anyway, its good to know now there is a focus, just for server snapshots, available at MySQL Labs. These are testing builds, that come out directly from pushbuild (the build system). Its not for production use, but what’s really useful is the fact that there’s also a recommendation to use the …
