How to run a successful MySQL User Group — SFMySQL.org

I recently had the chance to talk to the San Francisco MySQL Users Group and any group that gets 80 plus regulars to attend meetings is impressive. That night they had 280 people RSVP! And a better than average percentage appears. Thanks to Theo, Mike and Erin — the organizers for the invite. I also had the chance to ask Erin O’Neill the secrets of how they run their meetings.

Shinguz: German speaking MySQL User Group (DMySQLAG) founded today

Today the German speaking MySQL User Group (DMySQLAG) was officially founded in Berlin.

The association advocates:

  • the information of the use, the handling and the experience with MySQL and development in the MySQL Eco-System as well as systems which use MySQL.
  • the exchange of experience between MySQL users about MySQL and other systems.
  • the Advice and Cooperation with Oracle and vendors of other systems.
  • the submission of suggestions of the members to Oracle and vendors of other systems.

The intention of the German speaking MySQL User Group is to be a platform for MySQL User from Germany, Austria and Switzerland. To get a high enough weight for Austria and Switzerland we hope for a high number of registrations of these two countries.

Who wants to be listed as a founding member, should asap (until Friday) send us a notice via e-Mail.

The 5 Minute DBA: A Crash Course to MySQL DBA Troubleshooting and Optimizations

Many people who are charged with running MySQL are not DBAs, rather they are developers, system administrators, network administrators, etc. Typically these people put on a DBA hat only when there is a problem to solve or to deal directly with. These people are called “the 5 minute DBAs,” dealing with databases issues for only a very short time in any given week. This session will give these 5 minute warriors some basic tools and skills in …

“Begin at the beginning,”, the King said, very gravely,

“and go on till you come to the end of Oracle OpenWorld: then soak your feet and start sorting through the piles of material in your conference bag.”

Congratulations to everyone who made it through their first OOW event, as well as the returning champions!

If you’ve still got any strength in your legs, or if you did not have a chance to go, come join us for MySQL in the Windy City on September 28!
