Upcoming speaking engagements: Oracle OpenWorld, DOAG Conference

It's that time of the year again — the summer holidays are over and the conference season starts!

I'm very excited to be at Oracle Open World in San Francisco again, where I will pretty busy. On Saturday and Sunday I will attend MySQL Connect, primarily to man the Oracle Linux booth in the exhibition area. But I hope to catch some of the talks as well (I shared my favourite sessions with Keith Larson from the MySQL team in this interview). During Open World, I will help out manning the Oracle Linux demo pods in the exhibition grounds in Moscone South, where we will showcase Oracle Linux with Ksplice and related technologies. New MySQL Enterprise Oracle Certifications

As mentioned in my summary of MySQL announcements at Oracle OpenWorld, we announced last Monday new MySQL Enterprise Certifications with Oracle Secure Backup and with a number of offerings within the Oracle Fusion Middleware product family.

Many Oracle customers use MySQL for their web-based, departmental and embedded applications. The MySQL Enterprise Oracle certifications make it faster and easier for them to deploy and manage MySQL within their existing environment.

Certified integrations between MySQL and other Oracle products include:

1. Immediate Availability of the MySQL 5.6 2nd Development Milestone Release (DMR).

MySQL 5.6 builds on MySQL 5.5 by improving:

  • The Optimizer for better performance and scalability
  • Performance Schema for better instrumentation
  • InnoDB for better transactional throughput
  • Replication for improved data integrity with higher performance, availability and ease-of-use
  • “NotOnlySQL” options for more flexibility in handling both key/value and complex query operations
