Deprecating End-of-life runtime engines on Connector/Node.js

Starting with the 8.0.23 release, Connector/Node.js will be deprecating support for End-of-life Node.js engine versions. Support for these versions will eventually be removed on subsequent releases which will focus on compatibility with the available LTS versions at the date of each release.

Why now?

Up until now, the minimum Node.js engine version compatible with Connector/Node.js was version 4.2.0. This is a fairly old release that has reached End-of-life status in 2018 and, of course, hasn’t been maintained since then. This is also the case for the next two major Node.js versions – v6 and v8 – and will soon (April 30, 2021) be the case for Node.js v10. So, as of today, the oldest LTS version available is effectively Node.js v12, and the …

NoSQL-like syntax that does not assume previous experience writing
traditional SQL.

MySQL Connector/Node.js can be downloaded through npm (see
https://www.npmjs.com/package/@mysql/xdevapi for details) or from
https://dev.mysql.com/downloads/connector/nodejs/.

To learn more about how to write applications using the X DevAPI, see

Simplified Client and Connector Versioning

Here at MySQL we are constantly improving both our servers and our client software by making things simple to use and understand.  An area where we want to simplify things is around the version number we use for various MySQL client, connector, and other applications like Workbench, MySQL Enterprise Backup, etc.

Basically:

  • We want to make sure our users easily know which version of a connector or client works with which server version(s).
  • We want to deliver support for new server features during the server DMR phase without disrupting the GA versions of the connectors.

Which Connector Version To Use?

MySQL connectors (our client libraries — Connector/C, Connector/J, Connector/Net, etc) and other clients (tools and applications — MySQL Shell, MySQL Enterprise Backup, etc) will generally release more often than the server.  Relative to upgrading a set of servers in an …

MySQL 8.0

If you haven’t heard the news yet, MySQL 8.0 is apparently the next release of the world-famous database server.

Obviously abandoning plans to name the next release 5.8, Percona Server’s upstream provider relabelled all 5.8-related bugs to 8.0 as follows:

Reported version value updated to reflect release name change from 5.8 to 8.0

What will MySQL 8.0 bring to the world?

While lossless RBR has been suggested by Simon Mudd (for example), the actual feature list (except a Boost 1.60.0 upgrade!) remains a secret.

As far as bug and feature requests go, a smart google query revealed which bugs are likely …
