MySQL now has two user conferences (*)

PC World has written a post with this title(*) about the upcoming MySQL Connect conference and references the Percona Live conference and an official Percona comment. As this is not syndicated in Planet MySQL I encourage you to read the full article.

This is the MySQL conference to get technical presentations by the many great Oracle/MySQL technical staff who will not be in attendance at Percona Live. There will also be a strong community presence in speaking at Oracle Connect in September. While Oracle was organizing a dedicated MySQL event in April for the community with all vendors including Percona to replace the conference dropped by long term partner O’Reilly (kudos …

Story of success: MySQL Enterprise Backup (MEB) was successfully integrated with IBM Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) via System Backup to Tape (SBT) interface.

Since version 3.6 MEB supports backups to tape through the SBT interface.

The officially supported tool for such backups to tape is Oracle Secure Backup (OSB).

But there are a lot of other Storage Managers. MEB allows to use them through the SBT interface. Since version 3.7 it also has option --sbt-environment which allows to pass environment variables, not needed by OSB, to third-party managers. At the same time MEB can not guarantee it would work with all of them.

This month we were contacted by a customer who wanted to use IBM Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) with MEB. We could only say them same thing I wrote in previous paragraph: this solution is supposed to work, but you have to be pioneers of this technology. And they agreed.

They agreed to be the pioneers and so the story begins.MEB requires following options to be specified by those who want to connect it to …

Tell us what you want in 6.6

Now that we have finished 6.5 it's time to really start gearing up for 6.6.  We have  many great feature ideas but we want to hear from you.  To help with that, we're running a poll on the website where you can vote on the features you would like to see in the next version of the best MySQL ADO.Net Connector on the planet.  You can find the poll at http://dev.mysql.com and scrolling near the bottom of the page.

Thanks for your time and please go vote.

Connector/Net 6.3 Support has ended

We recently released Connector/Net 6.5 as GA.  Our policy is that we actively support the last 2 GA versions of the Connector so we are dropping support for Connector/Net 6.3.  Any users who are actively using 6.3 are encouraged to upgrade to the latest version.  You can find the formal announcement at http://mysql.com/support/eol-notice.html

MySQL Sandbox at the OTN MySQL Developers day in Paris, March 21st

On March 21st I will be in Paris, to attend the OTN MySQL Developers Day. Oracle is organizing these events all over the world, and although the majority are in the US, some of them are touching the good old European continent. Previous events were an all-Oracle show. Recently, the MySQL Community team has been asking for cooperation from the community, and in such capacity I am also presenting at the event, on the topic of testing early releases of MySQL in a sandbox. Of course, this is one of my favorite topics, but it is quite appropriate in this period, when Oracle has released a whole lot of preview features in its MySQL Labs. Which is another favorite topic of mine, since I was the one who insisted for having the Labs when I was working in the …
