Actually if you continue reading on the comments, you’ll notice that Marten responds to a lot of the threads - that in itself is impressive, right? When was the last time you saw a CEO write on Slashdot?

Okay, back to your daily grind… lets hope that doesn’t involve Slashdot.

I recently published an article on O’Reilly about monitoring tools for MySQL. Of course I believe innotop is the best in its class, so I mentioned it. But I also recently added some features to innotop, and made a stability fix too. Innotop upgrade: new features, stability Now you can easily monitor open tables with innotop. Just get the latest version (your configuration file will be upgraded seamlessly) and press the ‘O’ key (that’s capital “oh”).

I’m pretty sure this is the first time I’ve been mentioned by name in the 1st commet to a /. article. Yay me!? :)

For some time, MySQL has been using a unit test framework based on the Test Anything Protocol (TAP) used by Perl and PHP.

The framework consists of a C library that can be used to generate TAP output suitable for processing with, for example, the Test::Harness Perl module. In order to allow Test::Harness to execute the compiled programs, a simple wrapper called unit.pl exists in the unittest/ directory in the MySQL server tree.

The documentation for the MyTAP API is available at http://www.kindahl.net/mytap/doc/, until I can find another home for it.

MySQL Connector/Net 1.0.8 RC has been released.  MySQL Connector/Net is an all-managed ADO.Net provider for MySQL.  While this release is suitable for any version of MySQL, it is strongly encouraged that this release not be used on any production data. 

IMPORTANT
We are making this release available as an RC because there were significant changes made to the provider beyond just simple bug fixes.  Due to this, we felt it prudent to ask for feedback from the community before declaring the provider safe for production use.  We plan to release the next version (1.0.9) as GA within the next 2-3 weeks incorporating any feedback we get from the community.

MySQL's Marten Mickos is probably my favorite CEO. He is a great leader for his company and the OSS movement. I can only hope to be half as good a CEO as he is. **Please note I am not being sarcastic.**

First, I think closed source vendors are proving the hypothesis incorrect, because they are the ones who have un-friendly products although they have a licence revenue stream. And open source products, which typically lack a licence fee, are the ones with the best user friendliness. Why is that? Just booked my flight to MySQL Camp in Mountain View 10-12 Nov 2006. That is the un-conference where we look forward to hanging out with some core MySQL community members. Quite a few proposed session topics, on anything from advice on getting VC funding, to high performance database schemas for folksonomy applications. I might consider presenting the one on how to run a global distributed organisation if the topic gets enough votes.

Right now, I counted 29 attendees in the participant list. Hope to meet with many more MySQL community members there!

The MySQL 5.0.26 released 3 Oct 2006 contains an embarrassing ABI breakage. We’re fixing this bug right now, and making a new build including the first binaries which will carry the name “MySQL Community Server” and “MySQL Enterprise Server” (which obviously did not exist on 3 Oct 2006). We’ll notify both our community and our customers of the new builds when they’re available.

Sorry about the trouble. We’re also improving our internal QA and build processes, in order to avoid future, similar problems.
