I wasn't really looking for a new job a few months ago when I received an email from Eric Scheide (see Team Bios), the CTO at craigslist. He mentioned that they were looking for someone with MySQL experience and asked if I knew anyone. This sort of thing happens all the time.

But this time it was different. Over the course of about three seconds, something clicked in my little brain and I realized that craigslist is a pretty unique combination of things: a small company with a solid financial base, a great service that I use myself, a focused groups of people who really care about doing things well, and an open-source friendly environment.

Great conference yesterday at “La Sapienza” University in Rome with Marten Mickos and the Italian Team of Sun | MySQL.

I’ve just returned in Triest, my hometown, after 8 hours :( train ride.

I will be in Rome on May 30 to attend the meeting with Marten Mickos.

During my university days when I was working towards a dual degree in Accounting and CIS, I co-founded a small managed hosting company which I ran for four years along with two other co-founders. Then I started a consulting company and eventually moved into online publishing. Things changed and after nearly nine years of being self employed, I took over the very challenging responsibility of single handedly managing and scaling databases of a top 50 site (in 2006). It was definitely not an easy journey and I feel ecstatic to have helped my employer handle 6x growth and rise to being a top 13 site (using same Alexa algorithm).

While I enjoy working with MySQL, Solaris and technology a lot, I really missed being part of business side. 2008 was announced as the year of the *change*.

On February I started work on performance tuning features and I planned those two new Editions of HoneyMonitor (Pro and Audit Pro).

On March I returned back to Trieste - my University town - after a two-year-full-immersion experience at HoneySoftware, in Caltagirone, where I forgot all the job-not-related aspects of the human life.

On April, meeting my (old and new) friends, going to cinema and doing things like those, I recovered my social life.

at the Web20 Expo this week in which the speaker, Niall Kennedy
expounded on th advantages of using microformats. He said he's seen a
significant growth in traffic on his site since he started doing so since search engine results show direct links to pages on his site.
