MySQL Workbench 5.2.35 GA Available

The MySQL Developer Tools team is proud to announce the next release of it’s flagship product, MySQL Workbench, version 5.2.35. This is the next maintenance release containing 29 bug fixes as well as new feature additions. We also updated the supported platforms to include most recent editions of Fedora and Ubuntu Linux.

MySQL Workbench 5.2.35 now supports the Native Windows Authentication Method – available in the commercial MySQL server product – and the creation of user accounts utilizing this new authentication method.

For the PHP developers out there, Workbench now also comes with a new set of plugins to turn SQL Queries into PHP code to be put right into your scripts.

A big “Thank You” again to everyone for the large amount of feedback and ideas we have received on how to further improve and extend MySQL Workbench. We are continuously working on improving the functionality and stability of MySQL Workbench …

MySQL Installer, once again

First an apology. I have not been blogging much lately, but I do have a reason, and I think a valid one for once (i.e. not along the lines of "I was out drinking last night" or "I was busy boiling potatoes" or something), I have been moving house. And my new office is now as tidy as ever (and if you believe that, let me tell you about a bridge in New York that I have for sale at a really good price). No, the place is a mess, but my beautiful wife keeps up with me, and I am slowly getting things together.

That said, let's get to the point, MySQL Installer! If you read this blog, you know I have copmplained about this puppy several times before (First attempts with MySQL Installer and …

Hello World!

Historically it is tradition to start learning a new programming language by writing a 'Hello World' application.  While this is not a new language, we are certainly opening up a new communication channel so the title seemed appropriate.

MySQL has and continues to be the world's most popular open source database.  It  has millions of users and processes billions of records every day. The breath and scope of it's reach is truly staggering.  While many consider MySQL to be targeted primarily at Linux and other Unix variants, you may be surprised to find out that Windows is the most popular development *and production* platform for MySQL.  Take a second and go back and read that sentence again.

Oracle has been very clear in it's commitment to MySQL and especially MySQL on Windows.  My name is Reggie Burnett and I lead a team that is on the front line of this effort.  My team and I are working on …

Centralized Login Management Comes to MySQL: Introducing PAM and Windows Authentication Support

You probably remember the world of new possibilities introduced to MySQL 5.5. If you do, you probably would agree that no API is useful by itself.

This is why you need authentication plugins that fit the largest possible number of authentication setups.

I can only guess what these authentication solutions look like for your server. But chances are that your OS has a pretty good idea on how best to authenticate users in it. This is why we've decided to hook MySQL to the two most widely used OS authentication APIs : Pluggable Authentication Modules (a.k.a PAM) and the Windows Security Support Provider Interface

Oracle Enhances MySQL Manageability on Windows

Windows is a major development and deployment platform for MySQL. A few months ago, we held our first MySQL Online Forum, dedicated to MySQL on Windows. We outlined then why MySQL was a great fit for the Windows environment, and what were the upcoming milestones to make MySQL even better on the Microsoft platform.

We’re now pleased to announce that two important milestones have been completed:

1. The New MySQL Installer for Windows is GA

The MySQL Installer for Windows radically simplifies the installation process for all MySQL users on the Windows platform. It only takes a few minutes from downloading the MySQL Installer to having a ready to use MySQL system on your machine. It delivers: …
