Although smartphone penetration and 3G/4G coverage is increasing,
the cost of data access is still beyond most people’s reach in
emerging markets. The GSMA Foundation estimates (i) that only
one-fifth of mobile connections in Sub-Saharian Africa are based
on 3G, with 4G accounting for less than 1% of the connection
base. The GSMA also estimates that "despite the shift in the
region towards smartphones and mobile broadband, nearly 450
million connections will still be based on feature phones by
2020".
Myriad Connect Division is working closely with Mobile Network
Operators (MNOs) worldwide to provide "no data access users"
innovative and compelling services, creating new opportunities
for operators to achieve 100% market reach worldwide and generate
new revenues. The company offers MNOs & B2B integrators a
best-in-class Unstructured Supplementary Service Data (USSD)
platform, allowing them to easily create and deploy compelling …

- Booking.com processes 2 billion events/day relying on MySQL.
- Facebook started out with MySQL, and scaled to 1.6 billion monthly active users.
- Playing Candy Crush? You’re not the only one, 850 million games are played/day, served by MySQL.
- PayPal built a globally-distributed database with 100 TB of user-related data based on MySQL Cluster. It is used for fraud detection globally; a highly mission critical transactional application.
MySQL solutions have become very popular in Asia as well, where
certain countries with very large populations are relying on
MySQL technologies to meet extremely high scalability
requirements for mission critical applications. For
instance:
- MySQL Cluster powers a mobile network supporting over 800 million …

The MySQL Innovation Day took place on Monday, April 25, at the Oracle Conference Center in Redwood Shores, California. Jam-packed with 9 sessions delivered by Oracle's MySQL team, the event offered great opportunity for the attendees to learn the latest products and features in MySQL 5.7, including replication, security, optimizer, JSON-support, as well as the recently-announced MySQL Document Store.
We would like to thank all the attendees for participating in this event. Your enthusiasm for learning more about MySQL, through interactive discussions in each of the sessions and through sharing your own experience using MySQL, made this event even more unique and valuable for speakers and your fellow attendees.

[Read more]Percona Live 2016 was the most impressive show in a long line of shows that started with the old MySQL Users Conference. There were a lot of old familiar faces or familiar faces grown old. During my stint as MySQL Certification Manager I usually was at the other end of the conference center / hotel complex administering exams. But this year I would be able to attend sessions, network, and see the heart of the MySQL Community.
Bill Nye
From the opening keynotes featuring TV personality Bill Nye to the final drawing where I won a Bill Nye autographed book, the show was filled with information on several data stores just not MySQL. This show was more about managing data with the proper tool and not just managing data with MySQL. All the session were recorded and will be posted — have patience as it takes time to get all 195 speakers’s material formatted.

Welcome to MySQL Shell 1.0.3.5
Installation is a snap.
You can also determine where to keep your new mysql
The installation msi quickly guides you through the choices and your best bet for now is to pick the defaults. If you have used the 5.7 msi server install before there are no surprises. But you are offered the opportunity to change the options for such things such as location of the binaries. Again the defaults worked well for me. In a very short time you can launch the new shell.
And then you are ready to use mysqlsh.
And then you have the new shell with the new protocol!
