We’re proud to announce the next release of MySQL Workbench, version 5.2.32. This is a maintenance release featuring
a new and improved UI appearance and several corrections and other enhancements.

The tabbed interface has been refreshed to obtain a clearer separation between different modules of Workbench, while improving responsiveness when switching between tabs. The Query Formatter has been rewritten and is now faster and more robust on its handling of queries. The layout of the Administration module has been changed to allow for easier future expansion and use less vertical screen space. Parts that had problems managing MySQL 5.5 servers have been fixed along other total of 53 bugs or enhancement requests have been addressed.

We recently published a case study describing how central banks worldwide rely on the Bank of Finland's MySQL based simulator.

The Bank of Finland (BoF) acts as Finland's central bank, national monetary authority, and member of the European System of Central Banks and the Eurosystem.

The BoF developed a MySQL based versatile system for making payments and settlement simulations, used for analyzing liquidity needs, risk issues, changes in authority policies & regulations, and more. Running on Windows, the application has been widely adopted by central bank economists worldwide.

The Simulator is managing large data sets and thus needed a robust database as its foundation. Key requirements to select the database included:

·       Performance & Scalability

The MySQL team has been continuously improving its products on the Windows platform. Along this line, we’ve responded to a request from our users of Workbench on Windows – to provide remote access to Windows Servers using Windows management methods – as an alternative  to SSH.

Managing a MySQL server obviously requires access to the target machine, which usually requires elevated rights for certain tasks like restarting the server or manipulating the configuration file on Windows (where this file is in a protected path). For local connections this is mostly not a big deal. However for remote boxes security measures prevent easy manipulation of such essential things like server processes. We’re proud to announce the next release of MySQL Workbench, version 5.2.31. This is a maintenance release focusing on general product improvement and usability.

We managed to close 97 bugs for this release.

MySQL Workbench:  Remote Administration on Windows – Support for Windows “Remote” Management within the New Server Instance Wizard and Manage Server Instance Form. This works for servers on the same domain (or trusted) – ie typical Windows LAN environments.  We expect Windows users to prefer this “native” way to do remote admin on Windows.  SSH remote admin has been available for some time on Windows, Mac OS, and Linux.

MySQL Workbench:  Utilities Plugin – Starts a shell that contains a set of python scripts that perform basic tasks such as copying, exporting, and importing databases, finding database objects or processes, cloning servers and cloning users.

MyQuery 4version 3.4.1 is now released on Sourceforge: http://sourceforge.net/projects/myquery/. This is a pretty minor release with just a few fixes, but the first of them pretty significant:

• Windows 7 User Access Control (UAC) issue fixed - When running on Windows 7, the Windows UAC would prohibit MyQuery from starting, complaining about registry access. For once, this was not yet another UAC annoyance, but an actual bug that I hadn't caught before. Now, this should work OK even on Windows 7.
• SQL Statement normalization issues - The SQL Statements dialog got statements wrong at times, and could cause a crash. This was due to a bug in the normalization of SQL Statements and this is now fixed, including refining the normalization a bit.
• Optionally Show SQL SELECT tool output vertically - This will turn the output from the SQL command in …
