At the last OOW MySQL Plugin for Oracle Enterprise Manager (OEM)
was recognized as most popular MySQL product. If you don't have
OEM installed, but want to test the plugin you can download OEM
virtual box template. But, althought this is
the easiest way to get started, you still need to make few
additions. At least I had to do them when deployed such
installation for MySQL Support Team.
Here they are. I prefer to use command line when possible.
0. Import virtual machine image and change network adapter to
working one, then allow to connections via rdesktop:
sudo vboxmanage import VBox_EM12cR4.ova --vsys 0 --vmname …

We’re continuing to see signs that the dominant GPL open source license may be fading from favor among commercial open source software players. The latest move away from the GPL comes from content management software vendor Alfresco, which is moving to the LGPL after originally releasing its code under the GPL three years ago. The reasoning for the shift, according to Alfresco CEO John Newton, is the company sees greater opportunity beyond being a software application, particularly given the emergence of the Content Management Interoperability Services standard. Alfresco won mostly praise for its move, and it does make sense given where open source is going these days.

I use the term “silent install” to describe the method of passing parameters to the Microsoft Installation Package (MSI) to bypass installation screens. This allows you to deploy MySQL with your application and to install MySQL without end-user intervention. The developer can define the install location, the appropriate storage engines, the root password and the server configuration.
Most application developers use some sort of software for creating an application installer. Common tools include Install Shield, Wise Installation, InstallBuilder and Windows Installer. These installation software tools can also be used to install MySQL by launching the MySQL MSI and the MySQL Instance configuration utility ( MySQLInstanceConfig.exe ) from the command-line.
