MariaDB Roadshow Helsinki

One could say that MariaDB originates from Finland’s capital Helsinki. In fact so does MySQL. It was in the Helsinki area that MySQL saw daylight. It was here that Monty Widenius laid the ground for MySQL already in the 80’s, maybe even 1979, when he created UNIREG from which parts were reused when he together with the other 2 founders of MySQL released the first version of MySQL in 1995.

If you couldn’t attend the MariaDB & MySQL Community Event in April 2014, held at the Hilton Santa Clara, fret not as there are slides and videos uploaded for you to watch at your leisure. There is likely to be at least one more community event later this year, so watch the space.

Currently on the page, you’ll find most of the talks with slides and the videos are professionally done – with slide overlays. The audio could be better on some, but for an event that was pulled together by Monty in less than 3 weeks, it’s not too shabby. You can learn What’s new in MariaDB 10, a little more about the SPIDER storage engine,

At OSCON, if you’re into the MySQL world, the day to be paying attention to BoFs is clearly Wednesday, 24 July 2013. We have a MariaDB BoF at D136 at 8pm-9pm, but before that you might be at the MySQL BoF in the same room, or you might be in Peter Zaitsev’s BoF on MySQL, NoSQL, Big Data – Better Together in E141. So figure out how to split yourself at 7-8pm, and once you’re done, come from 8-9pm at D136 on Wednesday and join the MariaDB crew at OSCON!

We’ll also be at the SkySQL booth, so come by Booth 815 and get some free t-shirts, stickers, or support the MariaDB community by being a foundation donor.

It seems there’s lot of activity in Barcelona, Spain in the coming weeks. Lenz Grimmer talks about speaking at LinuxCon Europe (Nov 5-9), where the conference really runs from Nov 5-7. I’m happy to be speaking about MariaDB on the 5th. Monty Program & SkySQL are joint-booth-sponsors of this event, so expect there to be a presence for Q&A at the booths.
