Use Case: Multi-master MySQL for e-Commerce Sites

For this next blog in our Continuent MySQL Use Case series, we’re diving into a sub-series on the topic of ‘multi-master MySQL’.

We’ll cover three (3) multi-master MySQL use cases as part of this sub-series focusing first on e-commerce to start with, and then following up with use cases from financial services and telecommunications.

Multi-master replication for MySQL typically means that a user can write to any master node knowing that the write will be eventually consistent for all nodes in the cluster; unlike regular MySQL replication, where writes have to be applied to the sole master to ensure that it will be synched to all the slaves.

The First Multi-master Customer

Application Performance Issue Is A Business Issue [Infographic]

Application issues, downtimes and outages are the responsibility of IT to resolve. However, at the end of the day they are, essentially, business issues.

Businesses compete for customers online everyday and the latter are not a patient bunch. Every second of your web application performance counts building up or taking away both revenue and brand reputation. There’s always a risk that even though your application may appear to be working fine, its flow’s key parts, such as shopping carts, registration pages, etc. may not be functioning properly. So it’s critical to have a full controll across the entire application delivery chain. With Node.js, MySQL, Oracle, Java/JMX, Log, and Tomcat application monitors, you can track your app’s performance bottom-up.

New Webinar: A DevOps Guide to Database Infrastructure Automation for eCommerce

For an online shop, the website is the cash register. It has to be open for business 24 hours a day.

As the ops person on duty, when you get a call at 3am after your website went down, your priority number one is to restore the service asap. But why can we not have our application stack automatically recover, and not have the pager wake us at all? Why do we still stick to tedious manual processes, which take up time and resources, and hinder future growth?

Infrastructure automation isn’t easy, but it’s not rocket science either, says Riaan Nolan. Riaan has been in operations for the past decade, and has built over a dozen eCommerce properties. Automation is a worthwhile investment for retailers serious about eCommerce, but deciding on which tools to invest in can be a confusing and overwhelming process.

Join us for this webinar to understand the key pain points that online retailers experience which indicate it’s time …

E-commerce – Uptime and Web apps are the keys

Since 2011 e-commerce has grown from $856,000,000.00 to closing out 2013 at more than $1,248,000,000,000.00 in global revenues, a nearly 41% growth rate over a two year span. The forecast for 2014  is targeted at $1,500,000,000,000.00, another 20% increase is gross revenues (see chart below). With trillions of dollars in play year on year now, and astounding revenue growth rates still ahead, it is critical that any e-commerce site be diligently monitoring not just their website uptime, but more importantly their Web applications. Obviously it is critical that your customers be able to get to your website, but if it doesn’t build fast and complete client requests and transactions even faster then you will be losing clients and revenue at an alarming rate. The latest figures show that if your site doesn’t do a full page load in 3 seconds or less, …
