MariaDB moves development to Github
+0 Vote Up -0Vote Down

Today marks a milestone in terms of the MariaDB project – going forward, the MariaDB project plans to use Github and git for source code management. The migration happens from Launchpad and the bzr tool.

The 10.1 server development (under heavy development now) will happen on Github. You can check it out here: https://github.com/MariaDB/server. Feel free to watch, star or even fork the code, and send us contributions!

Previous maria-captains should now provide their Github IDs so that they can be accorded similar status. Send the IDs to the maria-developers mailing list.

The project eventually wants to move the 10.0, 5.5, 5.3, 5.2, and

Tokutek and Percona Live 2014

I’ve been a little behind in recent blogging efforts, and realized that in less than a month we’ll be back at Percona Live: MySQL Conference and Expo 2014, aka PLMCE. Last year’s PLMCE was my first, as well as the event where Tokutek announced the open sourcing of TokuDB.

It’s hard to believe that a year has gone by, but the customer adoption in both enterprise and community users has been awesome. TokuDB is available from our website for both MySQL and MariaDB, and is also

An update on the MariaDB Audit Plugin and a new version of it
+0 Vote Up -0Vote Down

I’m happy to announce that a new version of the MariaDB Audit Plugin is available. Version 1.1.5 can be downloaded here. As you can see the Audit Plugin is available from SkySQL, who has developed the plugin.

However, now with the Audit Plugin being GA for a couple of months since 7th of November last year and customers using it in production, SkySQL has decided to contribute the Audit Plugin to the MariaDB project and I’m happy to tell you that starting from MariaDB versions 5.5.37 and 10.0.9 the Audit Plugin will be included by default. Notice that these versions of MariaDB aren’t yet released.

The MariaDB Audit Plugin introduces the capabilities of tracking user access to data. By having the Audit Plugin available by default in MariaDB, all users can

MariaDB 10.0 Beta launched – an important milestone
+0 Vote Up -0Vote Down

There has been a lot of discussion about MariaDB 10.0 throughout the whole year. When will it be released, what will it include, what is the focus on MariaDB going forward, etc? My feeling is that people have in the past few months started to understand the value of MariaDB 10.0. There is a good group of people and companies that have been trying out and using the MariaDB 10.0 alpha releases and providing us with excellent feedback.

MariaDB 10.0 is a massive release with loads of new features which ease several pain points that MariaDB and MySQL users have run into over the years.

The highlights of MariaDB 10.0 can be divided into the following areas:

  • Replication enhancements
  • Storage engines
  • Optimizer enhancements
  • Administration improvements
  • Other important new features
  • Merged features and functionality

Announcing TokuDB v7.1
+0 Vote Up -0Vote Down

Today we released TokuDB v7.1, which includes the following important features and fixes:

  • Added ability for users to view lock information via information_schema.tokudb_trx, information_schema.tokudb_locks, and information_schema.tokudb_lock_waits tables.
  • Changed the default compression to zlib and default basement node size to 64K.
  • Changed default analyze time to 5 seconds.
  • Added server variable to control amount of memory allocated for each bulk loader. In prior TokuDB versions each loader allocated 50% of the available TokuDB cache.
  • Changed table close behavior such that all data for the table remains in the cache (and is not flushed immediately).
  • Removed user reported stalls due to cache pressure induced by the bulk loader, lock tree escalation, and a particular open table stall.
  • Several bugs and behavioral issues

Announcing TokuMX v1.2: Hot Backup
+1 Vote Up -0Vote Down

We’ve been hard at work on TokuMX since it’s initial release just over 2 months ago. Today we released TokuMX v1.2 which includes Hot Backup in the Enterprise Edition.

Hot Backup allows users to create a backup of a running TokuMX primary or secondary server in a replica set, with no blocking of writes for clients. We will be blogging more about the Hot Backup technology in the coming weeks. This same technology is used for Hot Backup in TokuDB.

Also worth noting are the features we’ve added since the initial TokuMX release:

  • Migration Tools. Migrate to TokuMX from MongoDB using our tool that replays MongoDB repication. This allows a TokuMX server to stay in sync with a MongoDB replica set, reducing downtime for production go-live.
  • Bulk Loading.
