Changing MySQL’s Community Contribution Agreement

A while ago, MySQL developed a Community Contribution Agreement for community contributions to the MySQL source code. While browsing the MySQL Forge Wiki I came across:

This page shows that the Community Contribution Agreement has changed — it is no longer the document MySQL AB created. It is now Sun Microsystem’s standard Sun Contributor Agreement, which CEO Mårten Mickos recently explained to me was “more accepted than the agreement MySQL had come up with.”

Italian Wisdom awaits Marten Mickos

Marten Mickos, former MySQL CEO, now Senior SVP with Sun Microsystems, is expected in Rome, at the local University, called "La Sapienza" (= Wisdom or Knowledge). The event, on May 30, is a mix of private and public occurrences. Marten will meet local customers and Sun officials, before speaking in front of an audience at the University.

In a vortex. That's the only way to describe the past thirty days, during which we closed out our second quarter, and put together the transaction to acquire MySQL. How'd it all start?

"That'll never happen, I've been trying for years." That's what I told Rich Green (EVP, Software at Sun) about six months ago in response to his assertion, "if there were one company I'd love to acquire, it'd be MySQL. They're an amazing company." Why'd I say it was impossible?
