Going to the O'Reilly MySQL Conference & Expo

As I've been doing the last couple of years, I will be going to the O'Reilly MySQL Conference & Expo. In addition to the tutorial and the replication sessions that I will be holding together with Lars, I will be holding a session about the binary log together with Chuck from the Backup team which the Replication team normally works very close with.

This year, O'Reilly also have a Friend of the Speaker discount of 25% that you can use when you register using the code mys10fsp.

The sessions that we are going to hold are listed below. Note that I am using Microformats, which will …

Cloud Computing Expo: San Jose

The Cloud Computing Expo at Fairmont Hotel in san Jose, CA is fast approaching and I plan to be there to learn and meet the folks interested in Cloud Computing. If you plan to be there, dont miss the hands on Cloud Computing BootCamp, also being held at Fairmont hotel on 20th Nov. and is Free.

Led by Williamson, the Cloud Computing Bootcamp will illustrate all the major players and provide a hands-on program with configuration samples, live demos and working setups you can further adapt and play with.

Hope to see you there and chat about how you can leverage the Sun Cloud offerings to build applications for the cloud or build your own clouds.

Sun's Cloud Computing Portfolio

Update: Sun has expanded its Cloud Computing portfolio with the recent acquisition of Qlayer, a cloud computing company that automates the deployment and management of both public and private clouds.  The Q-layer organization, based in Belgium, is now part of Sun's Cloud Computing business unit which develops and integrates cloud computing technologies, architectures and services.

Cloud computing is about managing petascale data. Sun's server and storage systems can radically improve the data-intensive computing emerging in the cloud. Some clouds are closed platforms that lock you in. Sun's open source philosophy and Java principles form the core of a strategy that provides interoperability for large-scale computing resources. Sun's virtualization solutions for advanced …

Sheeri and the MySQL Camp
If you have attended the latest two MySQL Users Conference and Expo, you will know Sheeri. She was awarded for two years in a row community contributor of the year. And she is seriously determined to see someone else on stage next year. That's why she has been pushing other people toward the community scenes, paving the way for other contributors to surface.

But, you know, Sheeri is really good, and we have been trying to hire her, without much success. So we decided that since she is such a great catalyst, we should let her run part of the show. Embedded in the next MySQL Users Conference and Expo, there will be a MySQLCamp, of which she will be fully in charge.

Innovation Everywhere - MySQL Users Conference and Expo 2009

The MySQL Users Conference and Expo 2009 has open its Call for Papers. The past edition had close to 2,000 participants, and the next one shouldn't be any poorer.

The theme for the next conference is Innovation Everywhere. After being a earthquake in the business world with the acquisition by Sun, MySQL continues its course towards innovation, by pursuing new users, new markets, new needs with continuous innovation.

A novelty, compared to past edition, is an embedded MySQLCamp within the conference. It will be an open space, driven and organized by the community, oriented to developers and advanced users.

Sorry, no Normalization or Sakila Videos

After looking through my raw files, the audio for the Database Normalization session at the MySQL UC2006 was missing. In addition I never managed a recording of the Sakila session due to the laptop crash.

All is not lost, interested viewers can see the Normalization session from PHP Quebec 2005 and my Rough Version of the Sakila session as subsitiutes.
