MariaDB 5.5.39 was recently released (it is the latest MariaDB 5.5), and is available for download here:

This is a maintenance release, and so there are not too many big changes of note, just a number of normal bug fixes. However, there are a few items worth mentioning:

MariaDB 5.5.36 Overview and Highlights

MariaDB 5.5.36 was recently released (it is the latest MariaDB 5.5), and is available for download here:

https://downloads.mariadb.org/mariadb/5.5.36/

This is a maintenance release, and so there are not too many big changes of note, just a number of normal bug fixes. However, there are a couple items worth mentioning:

  • Includes all bugfixes and updates from: MySQL 5.5.36
  • TokuDB is now included in RPM packages for CentOS 6 on x86-64
  • Note this release did not contain the bugfixes from XtraDB 5.5.36 yet. There is one bug fix in XtraDB 5.5.36 that is fairly serious, so if you are a *heavy* XtraDB+ user, I might wait for MariaDB 5.5.37 to be released, so you get this fix. I should note the bug was partially fixed in

Troubleshooting Building MariaDB 5.1 on Windows
    +2 Vote Up -0Vote Down

This is a follow-up, troubleshooting article that goes hand-in-hand with my “Building MariaDB 5.1 on Windows Revisited” post, and covers some problems and their solutions that one might encounter when attempting to build MariaDB from source code on Microsoft Windows.

The first error I ran into was this, on my main compile step (i.e., the 2nd cmake command):

    C:\Program Files (x86)\MSBuild\Microsoft.Cpp\v4.0\Microsoft.Cpp
    Common.targets(151,5): error MSB6006: "cmd.exe" exited with code 1.
    [C:\mysql\mariadb-5.1.67\bld\scripts\GenFixPrivs.vcxproj]

That in itself doesn’t tell us too much. Searching the full compile output, we find:

    Generating ../../scripts/mysql_fix_privilege_tables.sql
The system cannot find the file specified.
    C:\Program Files (x86)\MSBuild\Microsoft.Cpp\v4.0\Microsoft.Cpp
    Common.targets(151,5):

Building MariaDB 5.1 on Windows Revisited
    +1 Vote Up -0Vote Down

I previously wrote an article on Building MariaDB 5.1 on Windows, but it was about 1.5 years ago (for 5.1.60; this is for 5.1.67), so I wanted to update this a little since I’ve built it entirely from the command-line this time (as well as highlight a couple problems/solutions – which I’ll cover in a subsequent troubleshooting post). This process it quite similar to my steps for building MariaDB 5.5 and MariaDB 10.0, however it’s slightly different since 5.1 requires you run the configure.js script before running cmake. Aside from that though, things are mostly the same.

    Here is the full procedure:

    MariaDB 5.3 is now GA
    +4 Vote Up -0Vote Down

This is another, in-case-you-missed-it, but it is definitely worth mentioning again:

    MariaDB 5.3 is now GA

So, if you’re using MariaDB 5.1 or 5.2, I’d definitely recommend upgrading to the new MariaDB 5.3.

Also, if you’re a Windows user using MySQL 5.1, I’d highly consider making the switch to MariaDB 5.3 due to all of the Windows-specific improvements in it.

    MariaDB 5.3 Enhancements:

    • Subquery optimizations
    • Semi-join subquery optimizations
    • Non-semi-join optimizations
    • Subquery Cache
    • Subquery Optimizations Map
    • Optimizations for derived tables and views
    • Disk access optimization
    • Join optimizations
    • Index Merge improvements
    • Optimizer control
    • NoSQL-style interfaces
    • Group commit for the binary log
    • Replication and binary logging enhancements
    • Microsecond support for NOW() and timestamp, time, and

    MariaDB 5.5 has been Released
    +4 Vote Up -0Vote Down

In case you didn’t notice it last week, MariaDB 5.5 (5.5.20, specifically) has been released.

It’s a release I’ve been looking forward to for a while now, so I’m very excited that it’s now available!

Note that it is currently ‘alpha’ since it is the very first release of MariaDB 5.5. However, it is not your typical new ‘alpha’, so I would expect it to be GA in the not-so-distant future (please don’t quote me on this though, as I have no idea of the true time table – but the goal is for the next 5.5 release to be ‘beta’).

You can download MariaDB 5.5 from the following location:

    http://downloads.askmonty.org/mariadb/5.5/

There are also more details on this
