Workbench 6.2, CakePHP’s new ORM, and OKC Meetup on Wednesday
Employee +1 Vote Up -0Vote Down

In the beginning was the MySQL command line and it was good. Verbose yes, error prone yes, and even tedious. But it was good. The UPDATE USER set SELECT_PRIV=’Y’, DROP_PRIV_’Y”, UPDATE_PRIV=’Y’,……,LAST_BLOODY_PRIV=’Y”; type errors have caught of us old timers. But it was still good.

Then came some GUI tools that were okay. Not great but they had their uses.

And then came MySQL Workbench. And it was very good.

Now there is MySQL Workbench 6.2 and it is excellent. It came out in Beta last week and has built on the proven success of its predecessors. All the usual stuff is …

Korean MySQL Power User Group

If you are a MySQL power user in Korea, its well worth joining the Korean MySQL Power User Group. This is a group led by senior DBAs at many Korean companies. From what I gather, there is experience there using MySQL, MariaDB, Percona Server and Galera Cluster (many on various 5.5, some on 5.6, and quite a few testing 10.0). No one is using WebScaleSQL (yet?). The discussion group is rather active, and I’ve got a profile there (I get questions translated for me).

Big week for Southern California! I will be speaking at the LA MySQL Users Group on Thursday at 7PM in the Oracle Office on 200 N Sepulveda Blvd, El Segundo, CA. We will be in Room 4116 to talk about MySQL 5.7!

SCaLE 12x is THE big opensource show in Southern California and one of the more impressive conference on the planet. It may see a shame to waste temperatures in the low 80s by staying indoor but this show is amazing. So see you the 21st, 22nd, and 23rd at the LAX Hilton.
