FOSDEM 2018 – MySQL & Friends Devroom: CfP is open !

Good news ! The MySQL & Friends Devroom has been accepted for Fosdem’s 2018 edition !

This event is a real success story for the MySQL ecosystem, the content, the speakers and the attendees are growing every year.

Fosden 2018’s edition will take place 3rd & 4th February in Brussels and our MySQL & Friends devroom will run on Sunday 4th. FOSDEM & MySQL is a love story started 18 years ago !

The committee selecting the content for our devroom is not yet created and if you want to be part of this experience, just send me an email (candidate at mysqlandfriends dot eu) before Oct 20th .

FOSDEM 2017 is over… this was again a great MySQL event !

FOSDEM 2017 is over, I brought back home the flu…. but hopefully not only !

Indeed this 2017 edition was very rewarding. We started our FOSDEM with a “fringe” : pre-FOSDEM MySQL Day where we highlighted MySQL 8.0 new features and hosted some talks from MySQL friends.

Let’s finish these pre-FOSDEM MySQL Day Sessions reviews with Kenny Gryp‘s talk on MySQL Group Replication.

Kenny is working at Percona as MySQL Practice Manager.

Group Replication went Generally Available end of 2016, it introduces a (virtually) ‘synchronous’ active:active multi-master replication, in addition to asynchronous and semi-synchronous replication, the latter 2 being available in in MySQL for longtime.

As with any new feature, and especially with introducing active:active multi-master replication, it takes a while before companies are adopting the software in production database environment.
For example, even though MySQL 5.7 has been GA for more than a year, adoption is only starting to increase recently.

On February 3rd, just before Fosdem and the MySQL & Friends Devroom, MySQL’s Community Team is organizing the pre-Fosdem MySQL Day.

Today we will review Dag H. Wanvik‘s session. Dag is spending most of his time implementing Windows Functions to MySQL.

Dag H. Wanvik is a senior MySQL developer for Oracle. Before he did Derby/Java DB development for Oracle/Apache Foundation and he is a Derby committer. He last co-authored JSON support for MySQL 5.7. In his previous existence Dag worked on several compilers and HA distributed data base systems.
