So, my wife told me that my site design was boring.  Yeah, she was right.  I am no designer.  I just don't have that gene.  But, during my work on Wordcraft, I came across some cool places to find designs that are relased under Open Source licenses.

• Open Designs - This is arguably the the prettiest of the three. The search, however, is painfully slow because all results return on one page.  I guess if you can wait, this is a plus as browsing is easier.  Also, you can pick multiple colors and choose by license.  They only list XHTML templates (at least as search options).  That could be a turn off if you like HTML 4 like me.
• Open Web Design - The site itself could use a design overhaul.  But, the content is good.  The search lets you choose

Sun just announced MySQL Workbench, a new database design tool for MySQL developers and DBAs. I'm a data modeling tool junkie. I like to play with any I can get my hands on. I've used almost every modeling tool that's been built. My all time favorite is probably Erwin.

I decided to download MySQL Workbench (http://www.mysql.com/products/workbench/) and give it a try. Since I was playing with it, I figured I should write about it and while I am writing about it, I might as well write about a couple of other tools, that I have personally used, that you might like.

Brad Fitzpatrick has a nice discussion over what people should be using for their ‘id’ keys in a distributed environment. and puts a couple of points forward about why it isn’t such a good idea for his application/architecture. which has a ‘few’ central machines handing out ID’s.

The is a central problem with sequences that i’ve seen in most DB platforms. That and their 32-bit size. (I think mysql is 32-bit, i’m sure the geeks who read this will correct me)

The actual question has (If I am reading this correctly) is not about UUID’s vs local-sequences, but how do I move a ‘tree’ of records from one cluster to another, and not have a ID-clash. as if each cluster was independant, it wouldnt be a concern. you would have a central USER->cluster
